My friend is having me take his 99 Eclipse RS (2.0L non-turbo) to have the transmission flushed and filter changed.

This car has the Chrysler 41TE transmission. When I bought the filter the Mitsu parts guy told me I could only use SP-III and any other fluid would cause damage (I called B/S).

I am still wondering though would it be better to use SP-III or ATF+4? Should I just go with whatever is cheaper? Will there be a significant difference in performance depending on fluid?

Thanks

I am not familiar with that transmission but be assured if it calls for a SP-III or Diamond SK fluid that's what it needs .

ATF4 is close but not close enough for some of these transmissions from mitsu , kia , hyundai ect calling for the SP-III.

The 41TE transmission is the same transmission as used in the Dodge/Chrysler minivans, Avenger, Neon, and other random Chrysler vehicles which is why I am asking.

I am just wondering if this Chrysler transmission can run fine on either SP-III or ATF+4?
