..but, is there any difference in the oil itself, as far as quality (add pack, base oil, etc), depending on who produced it, or does the oil have to be blended to a preset spec? Would a VOA of WPP, EM, and SOPUS blended ST produce exact numbers (relatively)? Just curious because I have a 5 qt jug I'm thinking about throwing in the wife's Explorer, it's due for a change this weekend. I know I'm over thinking this as I'm going to use the oil regardless, whether it be in my car or hers...

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I did a search and couldn't find it. All the ones that came up either delt with who made it or is it any good to begin with...

Completely different oils that meet the same relative specs. In other words, there is no set "recipe" for SuperTech oils that all suppliers have to follow thus yielding the exact same oil no matter who blends it.

Walmart actually owns the API license for the various grades of Supertech motor oils. The license does allow substitutions, under some complicated guidelines, for base oils & additives.

No, I would not expect a VOA analysis to match up exactly between a WPP, XOM and SOPUS samples, some quantity variance will exist.

But the oil in the bottles is per the Supertech licensed formulation and is not Exxon SuperFlo, Shell Formula or the Warren house brand - (Mag something).

True. But there is a separate license for each blender's oil. The oil from WPP has a license, and the oil from XOM has a license.

It has to meet the specifications of the license. You can rest assured that the oil meets the standards of API SM ILSAC GF4. There are going to be variables beteeen differnt batches and blenders. Thats common with every brand.

"People just want to be talked into Super-Tech [I dont know]"

Nah, people just want to rationalize blowing money on expensive motor oils...

No doubt about that. Same thing with Coke, Pepsi, Grey Goose Vodka, and autos.....

Oh, I completely understand. I bought a 5qt jug months ago, but just the one. I wanted to see how my engine sounded with it in there (M1 has forever scarred me lol). BUT, since AA has Havoline on sale this month, I'm gonna use the ST in my wife's SUV and run some Hav in my 3400 Grand AM. I've been itchin to try the Hav for awhile...I figure it's about time

I'm up to 50 quarts of Supertech. It's so easy to grab a jug every weekend. Today I broke with tradition and grabbed some of that AAP 5W30 SM stuff since it's "on sale" all month for $5.77 per gallon and didn't have time to run by Walmart.

I'm gonna "SLOB" it up anyway, so why not?

I wouldn't worry about which type of Supertech oil you happen to get...all of them have to meet the certification requirements on the label. There are just different ways to do it (remember the pre/post Katrina Mobil 1 baloney?).

It's sort of nice to be back on the West Coast, since now I can find Super Tech Synthetic 5w30 jugs in stock and CSK has $.59/qt Chevron Supreme. A few months ago I stocked up on sale-priced VSOT at AA because I knew I'd be coming west. Now I'm stocking up on the before mentioned oils and will begin using my VSOT stash. Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State Synthetic, Valvoline Synthetic, Kendall GT-1 Blend, Super Tech Synthetic and now Chevron Supreme...and I'm itching to go buy some Trop Artic! I think I'm going to have to buy another car to use up all this oil (it'll have to be a 1.8l Toyota though, since I've got 22 F1 & F2 filters).

TropArt just disappeared from the shelves of MY Walmart. I'm not sure if it's b/c they are rearranging the store or what. There's no shortage of slightly pricier Motorcraft, though. You'd think w/ all the refineries down here, we'd have almost every type of oil.

Hi all. Im back to post one or two replys before I try to keep wasting my time on the internet. I was driveitforever and kicked myself off by changing my password sorta blindfolded. I work at a Walmart distribution center in ohio as a yard driver. Last week, I put in a crete trailer full of supertech oil on it in a dock door. I climbed up in the trailer and the ship label on the shrink wraped pallet of oil said Mobil Paulsboro, NJ. Whats that mean, ?? I guess if you buy supertech oil at wal-mart that is in the mobil shaped bottles you arent getting the warren oil. I think someone on here said the supertech "mobil" oil might be the bulk mobil used for dealers and quick lube's.

That's right. Mobil, Warren, and SOPUS all supply Wal-Mart with Supertech. It depends on your region of the country.

I scored 2 5qt. jugs of Super Tech synthetic for $12.24 each today. A recent new poster stated that
this had an excellent additive package (the same one used in Castrol GTX anti-sludge formula.)
A Group III oil with an excellent additive package
for $2.45 a quart is pretty decent by todays standards.

I've recently stocked up on conventional oil, mainly Pennzoil and Havoline (both on sale), and plan on running that for awhile. I do plan on going back to synthetic for longer OCI's, because my OLM in the Grand Am comes on around 7K. I don't feel comfortable taking conventional that long, so I was thinking about tryin that Super Tech synthetic as a less expensive means of running the full OLM OCI. If it's as good as Mannix is making it out to be with that uber add pack, then that looks to be a real steal..
