Songs That You Never Understood

Cocaine, or meth, must be far more fun than I ever suspected. Lyrics like these could only come from a substance. Recognize this from the grungy 90's?

Load up on guns, bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
Yay
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end.

Oh my god. 😂
Have you ever taken a drink of something, then immediately found Something so funny that you can’t swallow the drink and it’s all you can do to keep from spewing it everywhere? I barley managed to get my Oktoberfest down before spewing it everywhere. 😂
Good ‘ol Vince Neil.

Disco duck...
funkytown....
blinded by the light...
fly robin fly.....
was not much a beatles fan except for a few songs.....I was always and still am a RS kind of guy.

This song might qualify but the dancing takes your mind away from the lyrics.

One of my fave groups of all time! Me and Peppy used to email back and forth years ago, talking about music and stuff. The real treat is the b-side of that 45. Completely different and better take than that's on the "Psychedelic Lollipop" lp.

My take on that song, is that they're singing about just breaking into the music scene, hoping they one day make it big, saying "They aint got nothing yet", but one day they will. I think that's how Peppy described it.

And OMG those girls in that video!

Definitely a masterpiece! Their entire Moving Waves lp from which this song came from is awesome! (y)
I don't know, a novelty piece I grew tired of pretty quickly after a couple listens in the 70's. Back to Europe with ya all! (I hope my wife doesn't read this, she's 1/2 Dutch)

Anyhow, Ian Anderson gets the lifetime achievement award for guttural sounds when playing the flute.

Now put on Tea for the Tillerman from that era, and let's chill :)

I'm typically pretty decent with metaphor but the OLP song "Clumsy" is a bit off-side, as it seems to contradict itself between the chorus and some of the verses. Perhaps it makes sense in the author's mind? Or perhaps that's the point.

The verses allude to being overwhelmed, perhaps battling depression and then being offered help/safe haven and the opportunity to rest, while the chorus seems to imply gleefully watching this misery consume.

Throw away the radio
Suitcase that keeps you awake
Hide the telephone, the telephone, telephone in case
You realize that sometimes you're just not okay
You level off, you level off, you level off
But it's not alright now
You need to understand
There's nothing strange about this
You need to know your friends
You need to know that

I'll be waving my hand
Watching you drown
Watching you scream
Quiet or loud

And maybe you should sleep
And maybe you just need
A friend as clumsy as you've been
There's no one laughing
You will be safe in here
You will be safe in here

Throw away this very old shoelace
That tripped you again
Try and shrug it off, shrug it off, shrug it off
It's only skin now
You need to understand
There's nothing fake about this
You need to let me in
I'm watching you and...

I'll be waving my hand
Watching you drown
Watching you scream
No one's around

And maybe you should sleep
And maybe you just need
A friend as clumsy as you've been
There's no one laughing
You will be safe in here
You will be safe in... Oooo

I'll be waving my hand
Watching you drown
Watching you scream
Quiet or loud

And maybe you should sleep
And maybe you just need
A friend as clumsy as you've been
There's no one laughing
You will be safe in here
You will be safe in here
You will be safe in here
In here, in here, in here...

I assumed it was MLK but doing a little googling you may be right about that, but a German Priest doesn't fit with the others nor does MLK for that matter.

Sister Suzy - reference to Linda
brother John - Linda's brother John Eastman
Martin Luther - one site said the band called Lennon, John Martin Luther Lennon jokingly
Phil and Don - Everly Brothers
Brother Michael - blood brother
Auntie Jin - his aunt
Missed a couple on my original post
Uncle Ernie - Keith Moon
Uncle Ian - Auntie Jin's son

Since I never really paid much attention to McCartney I didn’t know about these lyrics and their meaning until you mentioned it. Keith Moon was a good friend with the Beatles especially Ringo Starr. He was The Godfather to Ringo’s son and we know how Zak went from there.

Procol Harum - "A white shade of pale"

Warren Zevon - "Werewolves of London"

At least this one has an INSANELY hard drum solo (to play)
