Something interesting I noticed at Walmart

When I was shopping for coolant yesterday at Walmart I noticed the Prestone AMAM full strength, Prestone AMAM 50/50, Prestone Dexcool (full strength) and SuperTech 50/50 use the EXACT same ingrediants (except for water in the 50/50s)

BUT the SuperTech Full Strength is NOT the same ingredients as the rest -- it doesn't even match its 50/50 type.

Why is that? They use another formula/maker for just their full strength??

All of the fluids were 5yr 150000 mile ratings.

Also I was amazed the Prestone Dexcool used the exact same formula as the Prestone AMAM type. What's up with that?? Everything is the same except the color??

I had noticed this as well. Im not sure if its the same concentrations, but every ingredient is the same and is listed in exactly the same order on the 100% antifreeze bottles of Prestone Extended life and Prestone GM Dexcool orange cap. However Supertech 100% antifreeze is totally different.

I dont know about the 50/50 mix since I dont buy those.

I would like to know if Prestone Extended life and Prestone GM Dexcool orange cap are the same? Any input would be great!

Did you look at the MSDS?

It's an open secret that "all makes all models" are basically Dex-Cool.

Interesting that ST full-strength is different.

Not sure of that, but if the ingredients are exactly the same and in the exact same order, I'm pretty sure the ratios are very close. example- the 50/50 formulations list water as the first ingredient since water is 50% of the volume.

I found a link on prestone's site, but it appears to be broken. When I click the link on MSDS nothing happens.

http://prestone.com/contact

I guess if it comes down to it, Ill send an email or call customer service.

I think at one time a SuperTech MSDS from Walmart was posted here that mentioned Old World Industries as the manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised if Walmart uses different companies for this product. The last time I read a container, it was the same as Prestone as you mentioned.

As far as the Prestone AMM and Dex Cool being the same, you might email them and ask. Ive got my own thoughts on this but it would be interesting to see what they say.

Maybe so. I was reading the ingredients listed on the backs of each bottle. Is it common to leave out some ingredients? I've seen on Peak bottle they list one or two of the ingredients and then list "and other proprietary additives.". (Or something like that.)

Except when they are not Dex-Cool and have no 2-EH, like Peak Global Lifetime.

Peak Global is working great in both my GM cars. Crystal clear

I am about to do a full flush and fill on the 4 cars in my immediate family, just waiting for a bit warmer weather. I bought the undiluted coolant 6 gallon case so it will be easy to do, and I will only have to keep one coolant in the garage.

Don't buy the 50/50 stuff. If it's say... $18, or whatever, and it's the same price as the concentrate, you're paying $9 for half a gallon of distilled water, you know. Distilled water is something like $.88 a gallon at Walmart...
