Hey guys, I street park my car every day infront of my house. Over the weekend, some jerk decided to key my car all along the drivers side. Ive had no problems with anyone in the neighborhood, neighborhood is a good middle-class area, so this absolutely sucks.
Its a white Nissan versa, what are my options? I know nissan has these touch up paints available, how good are these things? If i use one of those, do i need to add any clear-coat or top coat of something to make sure the paint sticks? How many coats of paint should I put?
Thanks for the help!

If it's a long, deep gouge then touch-up paint probably won't do anything for it.

It may not cost *too* much to get a shop to do it.

And who keys a freakin' Versa? What a jerk.

you can "crank your yank" at it all you want, and white is forgiving, but if youre anywhat a perfectionist....its off to the body shop

You should be able to turn it in to your insurance company and being vandalism, it should be a 0 deductable. I had a ex-girlfriend key my car when my new girlfriend(now wife) had it. There is no fixing a keyed paint with touch up dont mess with it call your insurance company and find out. Sometimes they want a police report, so you may have to report it. Still get it fixed right, if you plan on keeping the car., insurance took care mine with a 0 deductable. Still sucks though.

I think someone did it because you wanted to put an HID kit in it. Some people will follow you home if you blind them. Watch out.

Its pretty deep, I was hoping that touch up paint would work. I take it that it wont. Any harm in trying, or is it an absolute waste of time and money?

Complete waste of time. You'll kick yourself for wasting the money on the supplies. Just have a pro do it. If you're lucky, your insurance will cover it.

Go hit up some local professional detail shops, they see this stuff all the time and unless it's really deep they can do miracles. I know I had the vaunted GF attack in college and a local detail shop saved my butt since it was my parents car at the time.

Exactly. You will spend alot on touch up paints and not be satisfied.

Hopefully so, but will it affect his rates?

If it's deep take it to a body shop. You are not going to be able to touch it up with touch up paint.

How does that song go...?

"I dug my key into the side
of his pretty little souped-up 4-wheel drive,
Carved my name into his leather seats...."

:P :P :P

Touch up paint isn't enough for a typical keying. Do you have comprehensive insurance? If so, get a body shop estimate, depending on your deductible you might not be out too much money.

if you have comprehensive on your policy, and the versa is covered, and your deductable isnt ridiculous, take it to the body shop

First resort would be a police report by you, and then trying to ID the perp.
If the paint is really hurt, let your insurance company pay for the fix.
This is not an event chargeable to you, so will not cause an increase in your rates.
Still, someone had it in for you enough to key your rather humble car.
Why?
