Here are some pics of my Fox although it is not done yet.

It has taken years to get here as it was totally restored inside and out from top to bottom.

There are no extra holes in the engine compartment and the engine is new and painted as well.

The wiring harness is new and the wires in the engine compartment have been hidden as well.

The brakes and suspension have been upgraded and the interior is 80-90% new and the rims are aftermarket 17" pony's to keep the appearance of "low key/sleeper"

The car has not yet been wet sanded or buffed and it has about two gallons of clear on it.

The only badging will be the running pony in the Cobra grill and the antenna was shaved as well.

Although it appears as there is a dent in the hood it is an optical illusion.

I would like to know what you think of it????? :salute:

Nice. I had a 1990 LX 5.0 and I ran low 13's just with bolt-ons. Fox bodied Mustangs are getting rare these days, it seems just a few years ago they were all over the place. Now you barely see them on the road.

Right, the Fox platform started with the 1978 Ford Fairmont and was used under many FoMoCo products.

The following vehicles were built on the Fox platform:

Shamelessly copied from another forum...and not checked for accuracy.

'78-'83 Ford Fairmont
'78-'83 Mercury Zephyr
'79-'93 Ford Mustang
'79-'86 Mercury Capri
'80-'82 Ford Granada
'80-'88 Ford Thunderbird
'80-'88 Mercury Cougar
'82-'87 Lincoln Continental
'83-'86 Ford LTD (not to be confused with the Panther chassis-based LTD Crown Victoria)
'83-'86 Mercury Marquis (not to be confused with the Panther chassis-based Grand Marquis)
'84-'92 Lincoln Mark VII

A lot of stang guys think they are ugly compared to the hatchbacks but I think they look good. Are they substantially lighter than the gt's with the molding and spoiler? If so that would be the better choice to me. If I had one it would be a sleeper too.

What engine/tranny will you use?

Nice looking Fox!

I have an '82 Capri Black Magic with skirts and skins off an "Aero" GT, IRS out of an '01 Cobra, and a pile of engine mods. No where NEAR completion yet though, lol. I had an '87 T-Top, but unfortunately met with some diesel fuel on a wet road and ended up in a ditch. Engine, tranny and wiring ended up in the Capri.

Great cars to modify, simple and effective electronics, and quite light.

I always thought these Mustangs were Ford Escorts with 5 liter engines in them. Apparently not.

Thorough paint job, by the way. It's obvious it's not Maaco.

No, completely different chassis. The Fox platform was used for the Cougar XR7, Ford Thunderbird (up until the platform swap, the TurboCoupe era cars were Fox), Lincoln Mark VII, the Ford Mustang and the Mercury Capri.

It was a RWD with what Ford called "modified Macpherson" front suspension and Ford's own odd implementation of "4-link" to locate the rear axle. Ford used the upper control arms situated in a "V" shape to locate the rear end and prevent lateral movement, instead of using something like a Watts link or Panhard Bar. They used a similar setup on the Panther (Town Car, Grand Marquis, Crown Vic) as well, but they were later switched to use a Panhard Bar and a more "real" 4-link setup.

The Fox platform was morphed into the SN95 platform in 1994, and essentially shared MANY of the same underpinnings; most fox and SN95 parts are interchangeable. The S197 platform ('05 Mustang) is completely different though.

The IRS-equipped Cobras (like the '03 and '04 Terminators for example) are based on the SN95 platform, so the IRS assemblies from them will bolt-right into an older Fox car with very little work.

I always preferred crisp lines of the coupe over the hatchback. To me the hatch always looked like a coupe that had something heavy fall on the back. Without some sort of spoiler, it had a 'sagging' look to it.

My sister had a white on red '79 that I loved. Such a great car for her. I wasn't quite old enough to buy it when she sold it in 1985 (I was 15). Sadly, the parents of a girl I went to high school with bought it for her so I had to see her driving it every day, until she totalled it in 1987. Sad sad day.

Great job on the paint. Glad to see a Fox getting a new life!

In 1990 the LX 5.0 was my dream car. I couldn't afford it as I was in High School, I was stuck with my 82 plymouth sapporo. Last year I finally got a stang, 2007 black gt-luv it.

Just found this section tonight
