Here are some shots of what I do at the Sheriff's Office. These shots are from last week, installing strobe lights in an unmarked 2010 Taurus for 2 Captains (They are Admins and these are lease vehicles) 3.5 Liter civilian models. We wire lease vehicles in house. The marked patrol cars are wired at the dealership. I love my job. Most of these cars take about 3 days to wire up.

New shop air compressor (end of year excess fund purchase) Beats the [censored] out of the old [censored]. IR 5HP motor, 60gallon tank. Will keep up with our impact guns.

Nice work on the strobe controller pack!

Looks like a nice shop to work in - lots of agencies would be jealous!

....so, in the shot of the two cars, what oil is on the shelf in the background? Are those ST bottles I see?

Only problem is bays are shallow, can't pull vehicles in front wise, we have to pull them in sideways. 2 years ago, we enclosed the bays and climate controlled them. We are working on a second lift for the vans. Our current Challenger lift outside has a bar across the posts, and we cannot get a Van high enough to service.

We take pride in our work. It may take us a week to get a vehicle ready, but it is done right!

The oil on the shelves is MotorCraft Syn blend 5W-20. We buy a lot from AutoZone and AAP. Blue bottles are probably coolant, etc.

We top off fluids and do basic maintenance and repairs for all of our fleet vehicles. We do "safety inspections" for the Deputies on the road. That is Brakes, undercarriage inspections, etc. We have all the tools for troubleshooting and can fix most problems. We bought several OBDII Scanners that have saved us $$$ in troubleshooting.

After several UOA's on M/C 5W-20 blend, we have gone from 3K OCI to 7500 with no problems. Great oil. Our deputies have to service their cars every 5K, unless we tell them otherwise.

Did I say I love my Job? These CVPI's are a blast to work on. The Civilian cars are a fun challenge to wire up.

It's a blast! We have stereo tunes compliments of our Auto Theft unit seizures. Pioneer head unit, JBL subs, Xm satellite radio ( we pay for ourselves). Built a box and stuffed in the speakers, amp, subs ,etc.

Keeps us sane.

Some of our deputies can rack up 7500 miles in less than 6 months.

Yes, one bottle is ST ATF and we have a few bottles of NAPA oil in 10w30. We have to keep a variety, not only do we service vehicles, but we also take care of the ATV's, and small engines.

That is enough proof for me to stick with the 5W20 Motorcraft Blend in this jungle heat.

Can you get a awesome deal on some of those CVPI's [like supervisiors or really nice take home CVPI's] before they go to auction?

That is a awesome job and since you like what you do I am sure you do a awesome job!

What are the legal implications of modifying a car that doesn't belong to you? Lease vehicles belong to the financing company and as far as I understand, the lessee cannot make modifications to the car without permission.

The leasing company we deal with knows that the vehicles are used for Law Enforcement purposes. We do the installs and try limit drilling and modifying the vehicles too much.

We also can get dibs on the lease turn ins before the leasing company sends them to auction.

I'm super jealous of that air compressor. I've had my eye on one exactly like that for a while now. Don't have the money or the garage space at the moment, but I WILL get one some day.

The new compressor is awesome. Here is our old Craftsman 2 stage that could hardly blow up a balloon

It will be serving time as a companion to our vacuum station, so Deputies can vac and fill tires and their portable air tanks.

The Goodyear tire is a keepsake from Mark Martin's crew from last years Daytona 500.
