So what’s the final word on Rotella?

I keep hearing it, the "new formula" and how it "doesn't have the good stuff anymore".
But what stuff? All information that I can find is that regulations simply changed and they can't certify Rotella T6 for gasoline engines anymore but that it should still be good.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm fixing to turn my paid-off built STI into a daily driver, getting rid of my Civic Si to cut costs. Money is gonna be tight as a starting teacher so I'd like to stop using expensive Redline and just use Rotella..

My car has 408awhp (about 485-500hp); it has forged pistons, upgraded bearings, a bigger turbo, and I do not use e85... only 93 octane.

It does not get tracked or raced and probably never will. I have confidence in T6 but I'd still like to hear what the final verdict is.

If your worried, use a full saps oil meeting the VW 502 and/or Porsche A40 spec.

admit you only ask about oil just so u can say u have a 408whp car-)

I think an oil that has the Porsche A40 approval would be more appropriate for your car. Mobil 1 0w40 FS is a good one with the Porsche approval.

It may be conveyed that he is making an oil decision based on insuring ALL 408 horses at the tires stay protected without the use of redline oil.

I heard the only reason the 5w-40 isn't gasoline rated anymore is because of the phosporus levels. The 5w30 is still SN rated but with that much HP, I would stick to 5w-40.

With the engine you are describing, I really doubt you have cats anymore, if so, it isn't a concern at all. I wouldn't hesitate tu use rotella.

I really don't want something that's gonna shear down to a 30

Haha, I've been driving STIs for 14 years now and they've been super reliable!

No more Moly, you can find luvegard niotech a good moly sub pretty cheap... Funny not funny the two "lesser" HD oils as in Delo and Valvoline Blue have substanuaclly improced their formulas and the more popuar roteall and delvac has "lessened" some popular additives. You might want to think outside the box and look at delo or v blue. It may be delvac has some moly, but rotella took it out. Search uoa thread and pqia for all of the synthetic HD oils.

pther then no molu it looks very good, and funny seeing how rotella truck and gas has so much moly. They must be worried about low saps or something in the HD oil. One size fits all stuff.

Then run a 50 grade and stop worrying ... you live in Florida. Lots of the built Subaru crowd here use M1 15w50, which is a " thinner ... " 50 grade, or even 20w50 in various flavours.

And it's cheaper than a Civic to run?
If so, what's your secret. I'm sure many would like to know!

The STI is paid off; the Civic has payments!

and also.. I never want to give up the STI, the civic is fun but replaceable.

Your money but curious...was it your intention all along to make payments for 1yr then ditch it? A yr ago when you got it, you didn't know you had payments? Or have things changed financially for ya...
