Seems like a fair price. This guy lives less than two miles from me too, nice area. Why am I even looking at beaters on Craigslist when I have a perfectly sound new car!? Something about finding a used deal on a beater keeps me looking constantly. I'd buy this thing only to tinker with it and take it on the days I don't have my little girl. Don't feel too safe throwing her in a 95 Saturn lol.

Ask how much oil it burns.

See if the temp gauge goes above 1/4 at full warm condition.

Ask for the maintenance records.

It should have decent acceleration and if it's a putt-putt dog, don't buy it.

Lol well if it drives well I can't see myself losing money on it. Selling thing again for $1000 should be easy enough. Just did an insurance quote and adding this car to my policy makes it $60 more every 6 months. Big thumbs up to that!

It's going to use oil, inherent to the piston design. As far as safety, do you mean safe from breakdowns? The little cars are safe from an impact point of view. I was in an accident and it did well. I drove away, the t bird was towed.

I only mean as far as crash and impact safety. It sounds silly but with having a new vehicle I definitely miss having something I can tinker with. I miss beaters lol

Based on the listing it seems to not be optioned with AC. With my Golf it wouldn't be an issue for the hot days.

Grab it! Check the coolant reservoir before you get it for oil. It doesn't happen to them all, but it sucks when the SOHC cracks a head.

I loved working on our SL1.. so easy.

Well the guy just replied back to my email saying its still available and to call him up to come and see it. Insurance is basically non exsistant on the thing, I'm just tryin to figure out if I need this car (I don't) lol.

Just talked to the owner, checking the car out tomorrow. Older guy seems pretty straight up. Bought the car off a middle aged lady with 50k on it and said he replaced the clutch at that point, so the current clutch has 100k on it and he said it rides good. New Radiator and hoses put on about 2 years ago. We'll see how it goes. $900 isn't too much for the car if it runs well.

Check the subframe for rot on the driver's side where the lower control arm attaches.
If it's clean there, it should be clean everywhere.
I miss my Saturns too. I want another one.

Also check the rear door sills for rust.

95 is a fantastic year; new interior, better (IMO) exterior, MPFI on the SOHC, no mechanical mice seatbelts.

No A/C? They would have to pay me to take it. I haven't seen a car without air conditioning since the 1960's and that was in Hawaii!

So no go on the Saturn. The interior was literally falling apart. Every possible thing you could imagine rattled, and rattled badly. Motor idled fine and seemed to be strong but that was about it.

My little 96 escort felt 10 times more solid and had a better interior. I'm just guessing this wasn't the most well maintained car.
