ok so i was going to use havoline but interestingly enough no one locally carries it. seems like around here its getting harder and harder to find. im not really a big fan of sopus after finding out they are very uhmmm not nice to small business ect ect. i wouldnt mind using mobil but unless i want mobil 1 i cannot get their dino in my town either. i like valvoline but its over priced and their customer support is very short and not very friendly. also my old chevy would tick with valvoline but no other oil . kinda made me question valvoline some. gave me an uneasy feeling. so now i was thinking i could try castrol gtx. why does castrol not get alot of love on here? please inform me . thanks guy

What can you tell me about castrol = its on Sale :grinhttps://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2655823&gonew=1#UNREAD:

If you restrict your oil purchases on the basis of bad politics or business practices your choices are going to get mighty limited! I don't think you'll find too many "saints" in that crowd. Many here would consider Castrol (BP) one of the worst offenders. Remember the gulf spill?

Valvoline is probably one of the better ones, you have your reasons but they don't do any drilling/refining and my experience is they have good customer service, but to each his own.

As for Castrol I used it exclusively for many years with great results. The police department here also runs bulk GTX 5w20 at 5k intervals and hard use and has many very high mileage Crown Vics to show for it.

Bp overall has a pretty good record when it comes to the environment. Sure they had the spill. But stuff happens . And I believe it was an awful tragedy I think it was over played for media ratings. I kind of feel bad for bp yea it was a screw up but they made it right in my mind

Where you at in Missouri? I'm in the rolla area and walmart stocks havoline here. I never had any problems with gtx when I used it in a 97 GMC that was actually my only 305 or 350 that didn't consume oil.

I'm in St Clair. No one around here has it. My dad runs castrol in his Jeep and changes every20,000 and it still runs.LOL

20,000? In a Jeep, ouch. That can't be good. Maybe in a german car with an 8 qt pan and Euro spec oil driven on the highway.

It started out as a dd and then he lifted it beats the snot out of it I've looked throught the fill hole its not super clean but its not sludged up either and that's just regular castrol Dino

Good point, also lets not forget the good Capt. Hazelwood over in pristine Alaska. These things do unfortunately happen, only Hazelwood had no excuse IMO.

It has to be drilled/refined by someone!
Who/where drills and refines for Valvoline?

Its one of the top dino oil. My dad had a caprice with a 305, he put 385k km on it, no valve noise, no smoke, sold it and the guy put another 100k km on it, so over 485k km, feed with castrol gtx from 100k. In my opinion, its a safe choice, can't go wrong.

Same thing with my mom 1990 plymouth sundance, over 300k km...

Valvoline aka Ashland/Marathon Oil Co.

Prior to Edge, Syntec was the most overpriced oil I could think of. The U.S. Syntec. All marketing and hype. Poor product data sheet information. They had a few sleeper oils but nothing that great. I've always found their oil to be subpar.

I have used castrol GTX in all my vehicles and i have had probably 20 or more i have never lost a engine nor had one that burned oil significantly.I used it in a Grand Am and i used to run it hot more than 10 times, so hot i figured i would need another engine but never did.Maybe just luck idk but it has served me well i have to believe they must have a decent additive package atleast.
