Can't wait to hear how this turns out.... a 25 year old Volvo, sight unseen.... what could possibly go wrong?

You'll want to join this forum as it is a wealth of information for everything Volvo, especially the 700 series:

I see that is a 16 valve engine (B234F.) Make sure you change the timimg belt, tensioner and replace and correctly torque the oil pump pulley bolt as those enjoy shearing off causing the engine to jump time and go boom...

Best wishes on a smooth purchase. Those are very good cars - I have a '91 740 8 valve non-turbo (B230F) that I wil be selling soon. It has been a 3rd car for several years and I don't need it anymore. Dead reliable and slooooow. The 16 valve in yours should be peppier.

The car passed inspection by Stillman Volvo and drove flawlessly for the 11 hour journey back home. Best thou I ever spent. Stage 0 in progress.

Looks good, seems strange the dealer couldn't sell it locally for $1500 since its road ready, but I guess not many people want an old Volvo as beater?

The dealer provided the paid inspection of the vehicle, it was not purchased from them. It was a used car lot eBay find and I was the high bidder.

Ebay keeps track of this, and will terminate your account for doing this a number of times.

I've sold on ebay for 15 years now, so I have filed the deadbeat bidder form several hundred times.

since i'm a somewhat nice person who can appreciate grey area situations, you can just be a deadbeat non payer once or twice a year and ebay wont do much against you.

These posts are wrong, wrong, wrong. These people only have a limited understanding of eBay rules, and the regular rules don't apply in this case. Calling the OP a "deadbeat" is totally out of line.

The OP was completely within the rules when he said "the car's junk, I no longer want it."

Ebay vehicle bids are NON-BINDING. Vehicles are one of the rare categories that are this way. I assume it's specifically aimed at situations like this, where the vehicle turns out to be junk.

Here are the ebay rules:

Quote:
A non-binding bid is a bid that shows a buyer's interest in purchasing an item, but it doesn't create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller.

All bids made in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicles categories are considered non-binding.

what he said.

It's a non-binding because usually the products weren't inspected before bidding, and sometime it's in another state so far away to do any inspection before bidding.

My friend bought his BMW in Texas on eBay, he and his son flew there to do inspection and tested drive. Everything was okay so he paid with cashier check and drove it back to California.
