We went to Branson, MO for New Years. We found a package deal for a show and 2 nights stay. That was legit.
Once there she wanted to see another show but it was pricey. The guy at the tourism place suggested we could get $100 by attending a resort time share meeting. I of course got red flags. The guy then upped the cash to $205. Must have been spiff money being New Years Eve. The wife wanted to so I gave in...

So we went. 2 hours later after watching a video and telling how fantastic this resort is.
They even took us on a tour of the resort. Not mentioning names.
There were about 30 couples attending this sham.
the questions they asked were probing so the could sell us the "right" package.
Then they presented the cost of a deal that would fit our travel needs.
One buys "points" not a time share, LOL.
IIRC it was 40000 points for $20K. AND if we bought that day we could double the points. We said no. This went on for a bit. Of course there was maintenance fees etc on top of the $20K.
I kept a eye out for a sneaky credit check form as well.
after saying this was not good for us they got a little pushy but finally determined we were not buying.
We got out with the $205 in cash and saw the show. Was it worth it? NOPE.
I did look up the company and complaints, lets say how can they even "sell" this stuff?

Been there done that. It was a colossal waste of time. We did it to get a week at a hotel in Myrtle Beach 75% off. The sad thing is, more that half of the people took the bait.

I did it too. I knew all along what their scheme was. After the spiel, I just told them "I just bought a house...I can't buy ANYTHING ELSE...it would wreck my FICO score and ruin my financing".

They sighed and gave in. I got my gift and walked away.

They sell the time share, and then get paid to sell it again when the people they sold it to realize they want out of their timeshare they just bought. It's like being a broker of a jar of feces that has to remain on someone's doorstep by law.

I always wanted to attend one of these presentations, high pressure sales tactics fascinate me. I'm weird, I know!

I knew they were a big waste of time, yet a few months ago my wife and daughter begged me to go with them.
My wife and daughter learned a big lesson that day... not all that shimmers is gold.
We left , without a "gift" and without buying anything.

I think it would be fun.

Sit there eagerly taking notes, nodding in agreement, pretending to be interested, asking lots of questions.

Then telling the sales person that I just came out of Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Or ask if there are schools nearby and tell them that the latest court order has a 500 ft restraining order on you for schools.

I have a form letter I send for folks who get hoodwinked into buying into these deals and shortly thereafter want out. A lot of otherwise smart people are herded into signing up. My BIL, though, has a time share in Santa Fe which is first class.

I enjoy them, my wife doesn't. I actually like how they start out at $20,000 and by the end they are down to $6000. I always wonder how many people buy at $20,000. I love to mess with the timeshare salesman and my wife gets mad. I am intrigued with them and how many people buy into this. They must sale them, or they still wouldn't be. I own two. I didn't buy one, my aunt gave it to me at Disney, I usually rent it for more than my $500 a year fee and I bought one on Daytona Beach off Ebay, because for $450 a year, I am able to use all the amenities all year long and still get a week free stay. Just like Credit cards, You have to learn to use them, not let them use you.

Lucky, i got stuck in one in orlando..wasted over half my day. Not worth it and they are scummy liars. CEO of this -gate, is filthy rich..i can tell by the photos of him with celebrity's...save ur time and sanity.

I went to one that was sorta local just to see what the spiel was. Basically it turned out that the cost they were pushing as saving money on a vacation was more than what I normally spend on a vacation so the guy just gave up.

Do you get to use the one in Daytona during the 24hr, 500, or 400?

Now that's funny! What a job those people have, knowing that the majority of people will say NO, and that the resort will fire them at any time.

I looked them up at ripoffreport and consumer affairs. Fun reading.

I still remember how they reacted when I kept calling it a time share and them correcting me it was vacation ownership. hehehehehehe.
I always think too late, I should have asked how does one deed a point?

I live in Daytona Beach. well, Port Orange. I am 2 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, 8 miles from the Speedway and Bike week surrounds me. Its just a good deal for me. I can go down to the timeshare, its on the beach. Park in their lot, they will supply me with a umbrella, bicycle if I want to ride on the beach. I can use their pool and hot tub. They have a lounge and bar with a pool table. All of it, I can use just by being a owner. Its 5 miles from me. I usually go on vacation in Oct-Sept. when the crowds dissipate. But both of my Timeshares, I could use whenever. You just have to reserve ahead. I can also swap out for anywhere else through Platinum Exchange for a additional $130. I could go to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe or just about anywhere else in the country to a 5 star condo for 7 days for less than a $100 a night. I like my timeshares.

Tell em':

I would love to buy, but I have been diagnosed with a terminal disease, and I have only 6 or at most 9 months to live!

That would probably leave them speechless, LOL.

My late F-I-L had a couple he got from others.

They don't pay to buy new, but if you can pick one up from someone who has already paid the big cost, it's may not be a bad deal.

As long as you know what you are doing.

oilBabe and I visited what is likely the same or at least similar place to where the OP visited about a decade ago.

We enjoyed the free hotel and show. Walked the grounds and then said no, it really wasn't for us.

When the kids were younger, we took them down to a sports themed church camp every year, so we needed a local place to stay when we picked them up at the end of the camp.

A "free" hotel and show in Branson was our option one year.
