So do batteries only last about a year in these things?

If not in any use for 6 months a year and still on a vehicle, chances are the battery will die. I killed my bike batt this way, was taking batt out and charging once a month during winters after batt replacement and new one lasted at least 4 years and still good when I sold the bike.

My polaris 570 ESP Was purchased in 2015. It's hard to believe, but I still have the original battery in it. I keep a Battery Tender Jr on it all winter. Not that I've said this, it will probably die tomorrow.

I've had the wrong battery in my Polaris 4 wheeler and it's done okay so far. Only time I had battery issues is when I was using the winch and plow. It just doesn't have enough of a stator to keep up. So I put in a car battery temporarily.

But I keep mine on a battery tender when not in use. And I know there is going to come a day where the undersized flooded / vented battery fails.

My riding mower has a 4 year old battery in it - same thing. On the battery tender when it's not in use. And the zero turn.
