So do batteries only last about a year in these things?

Atvs, motorcycles, dirt bikes., jet skis etc? Is one year the typical lifespan for these batteries? I don't think they've been using the right battery in my side by side, but can't really find the part number. It's a 2017 polaris rzr xp1000 2 seater

A few thoughts... batteries can be damaged by heavy vibration and heavy bouncing. If going over big stuff and rough terrain, you might consider a battery designed for that. Sitting at a low state of charge for extended periods of time can ruin them quickly, too.

Edit: there could also be a problem with the charging system. Have you checked voltage, especially with the engine rev'ed up to cruising RPM? Over charging at too high a voltage can cook batteries fast, too. AGM's are more sensitive to this, BTW.

I'd leave batteries in use cases like this on a maintainer 24/7. My lawn tractor battery from 2015 still cranks my generator or 1969 JD 140 H3 ... for one or maybe two starting attempts :) The times that I left it un-maintained, it was dead within a few months.

just like other vehicles batteries NEED to be kept CHARGED!! just sold my beloved 13 Vic Hammer with the OE battery!! my Kawi KLS 250 S with the cheap OE flooded battery was 8 YO still doing well!! the cheap battery tender helps BUT for ME longest life came from my C-Tek 4.3 Muse i bought about 15 years ago!!!

Maintainer / Conditioner is a must. Still have the OEM battery in my '13 Ski Doo, battery in my HD is the same age also.
Sled is getting a new one this winter more than likely as it's a 4 stroke with no recoil backup, it still is cranking fine though.
All my sitting batteries are on maintainers. All my sled clubs SxS tracked machines and tractors are plugged in when parked also.
Extending battery life more than pays for the cost of a maintainer after a year or two.

I went down to the dealer. Turns out it's just a basic flooded wet acid battery. Not AGM, but the battery the previous owner had in it was just a small lawn mower battery and this one is like 3 times as heavy and twice as big. 575cca instead of 385cca. Guess that's the issue. 😂 was basically the same price too. Had to order a different hold down clamp though, but that's okay. Not sure what his logic was on this one. Maybe it was a Saturday and the parts store was easier to get to vs the polaris dealer? They have people that add a second battery on these things to aid in running lights and sound systems. I do have an 800 watt sound system on this thingz not sure if that's going to pooch the battery. Bought a battery minder too that I can just plug into and leave the cables connected all the time.

Add a battery tender and life of batteries will increase greatly. I have them on atv, UTV, generators, classic vehicles, mowers, tractors.
