No. If you do a lot of highway driving you may be burning off any fuel leaking into the oil. You should get a used oil analysis to check for fuel contamination.
If the car has an underhood charcoal canister, the canister can be contaminated with fuel from someone overfilling the tank.
Kia has definetly come a long way, I remember back in 1974 my Dad got me a 3 speed bike for Christmas, I remember I wanted a 5 speed Schwinn and ended up with a 3 speed Kia. If the cars are as good as the bikes you should get a lot of miles out of this car, good luck with finding where the smell of gasoline is coming from.
That's how the oil in my 04 Civic smells ever since new. Same with my mom's Camry. I think it's normal.
Anyway the best thing is to make and UOA next oil change and I will see if there is gasoline in the oil.
The car goes good especially from the last oil change when I put petrol canada synthetic oil instaead the oil of kia dealer.
But the smell didn't go away I thougt that was the kia dealer oil to have that smell.

From under the hood in general, or specifically from something when you check your oil?

The smell comes from the oil, I smell the oil on the cloth that i used for wipe the dipstick of oil.
