SMART CAR : crash test : VIDEO ...

Kinda impressive it could hold its own. However, there is a guy at a westinghouse plant near me who has one and I seen it drive around....I dont want one. I felt small in my Daytona, I feel like I would be flattened by a dodge omni in the SmartCar.

That actually looks like it does well, the tires break loose in the side impact and the safety cage stays in place. Plus on that offset frontal impact it doesn't rip to shreds. Mercedes has long done well on those offset tests; their lineage shows.

I would actually be more afraid of spinning out on that short wheelbase on wet or snowy roads.

It looks very solid in a single vehicle wreck.

I still wonder how well it would hold up to one or multiple larger vehicles hitting it. I have seen a fair number of wrecks here, since people in Charlotte are generally terrible drivers. It isn't unusual for a 1/2 ton + pickup, large SUV, or commercial vehicle to be involved. Usually the truck smashes the car into a median or into other vehicles, or the car ends up under the truck. How a Smart performs in a wreck like that means more to me than running one into a wall.

Dodge Omni may well flatten it. Plus they get better gas mileage. I wonder if they have any Omni's on ebay? 31 city 39 highway.

I'm not sure what the mpg rating is for the U.S. Smart, but I have seen estimates in the 40mpg - 60mpg range. I can't find any crash test data on the Omini, I'd like to see what you base your ideas on.
