Small nicks on new rotor surface, problem?

I replaced my rotors and pads on my Scion tC. Went with Brembo plain rotos, and Axxis Ultimate performance pads. So far I haven't felt any problems with this new set up, but one of the Brembo rotors did have a couple small nicks on the rotor surface. Looked more like casting flaws, about .05 inches in depth. Would those small nicks cause problems like cracking. Should I replace the rotor? Thanks.
 
It depends on the depth of the scratches, but I wouldn't accept a new part if it had such imperfections.

Technically some scoring on the rotor should not affect pad performance.
 
I've run into the same thing helping a friend with a set of Brembo rotors. It never caused any problems with the car before he sold it.

That said, I wonder if it's shoddy QC or poor standards that allow parts like that into the hands of customers. The ones I saw had obvious casting flaws.
 
Those irregularities shows cruddy casting techniques, and poor quality control.
For the street, it may not make a difference, but if they are not installed yet, return them and get others.

you can usually pick up brembo blanks for cheap. iirc i used to be able to get brembo 13" front and 11.65" rear rotors for my mustang for less than $200 shipped. the volvo is another story...

Tirerack carries the brembo line. I can't attest to their quality but they are comparitive in price to what you would pay for no name rotors at any auto parts store.
 
The tire rack is where I got the Brembo rotors. Can't remember exactly how much they cost but they were cheap. The flaws seem be disappearing as these pads are getting broken in.

The reason I didn't return it was because I didn't notice the flaw until I was pretty much done with the brakes. My back and knees (mental note, buy knee pads) where killing me by then, so I just said, screw it, I'm not putting back the old set up just because of this. It would also cost as much to ship it back and forth as it would to buy a new one.

BTW the rotor that had the flaw was made in Brazil. The rotors for the rear wheels were made in China, and had no flaws on them at all. They even, very nicely, laser etched the "Brembo" name on the edge of the rotor.

Check out the Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors. I just bought a set for the wifes Lexus and I was amazed at the quality. Even the packaging was excellent as they were sealed in plastic and coated with oil. They now have about 800 miles on them and are perfect.
