From dodge talk. Hey, just put a little Seafoam in it an it will be fine... must be partly the result of zero oil changes and possibly a malfuntioning thermostat.

Looking at it more closely, I see the thermostat port looks nasty too. Could be a Katrina motor. Got full of seatwater and somebody ran it for a long time, then replaced the oil a couple times. I would suspect some milky residue with this however.

From the other site some "words of wisdom";

Quote:
that is a result of using cheap oil also if you mix synthetic oil and conventional oil that will happen rebuilt a lawn mower engine were they mixed oils the crankcase was full of tar like deposits the good news is it should clean up and be ok since the miles are low however i would replace all the bearings

I'm not so sure what you're looking at is the thermostat "port". I believe that's the hole for the distributor. The thermostat goes in the manifold.

Thats a 5.2l or 5.9L Magnum Dodge.

Edit: According to the other forum its a 2001 Dodge 318 (5.2L Magnum).

With 51,000 miles it is either on its factory fill or only had a dealer freebie or two at the beginning.

If the PCV wasn't working properly it would cause this because they run hot thermostats.

I have seen gunk in these engines similar to C3PO's chevy engine in the other thread but it's because the PCV wasn't working properly so I could see that amplified over many miles.

Your right - thats the back of the block and its the distributor hole. Water jackets in the heads look OK.

Would be nice to know history on this one. I remember seeing stuff not too different than that 25 years ago.

This is what happens when you use Pennzoil....people have been warning us, but do we listen? Nooooo......

That's B.S. I have tore down many engines running Pennzoil and none of them have looked like this. More like 40K OCI's and not 4K as the guy claims.
