It also had 355 foot lbs of torque at like 2,000 rpm!

A stock GN would clean the floor with a 260 hp Ecotec Cobalt in acceleration.

Stock GNX - 0-60 in 5.3, quarter mile in 13.3 @ 104mph

Stock Cobalt SS - 0-60 in 5.5, quarter mile in 13.9 @ 102.5 mph

Pretty impressive for a car weighing 600 lbs more with an auto tranny.

a GN is NOT a GNX. a GN (grand national) had 235-245hp, GNX was a last-year-of-production special run that had rated 276hp.
btw, the cobalt does it w/ almost half the displacement.

But you'll still lose in a drag race!

You're comparing mid 80s technology with brand new technology.

Doing NOTHING but putting a modern ball bearing turbo of roughly the same size on a stock GN would probably net you 30 hp. And a big ol OHV V-6 will have so much more "area under the curve" power.

HP/L is the stupidest comparison EVAR!

by 6/10ths? WOW.
HP/L is an acceptable way to compare apples to apples last time I checked.
using geek speak like EVAR is also pretty stupid.

The tires are too tall for the 3.73 gearing. He'd need 4.88's to bring it back to stock ..which would be around 3200 @ 70mph. Mine is much better with 235/75r15. If I floor it, I may make 55-60 to merge with traffic.

85mph has plenty of throttle left to it ..but breaking 90 is like approaching the speed of light in the required thrust dept.

We know we need new gearing, but he wants to wait until he can get a Dana 44 for the rear so he can get a locker or a limited slip. Bad idea to put one of those in a Dana 35, especially since he wants to go for 35" when these tires need replaced.

If you're a 16 year old with a Civic trying to prove why your car is better, even though you just got your [censored] handed to you by a Mustang or a Camaro with less HP/L.

I had a 83 240D. It was unsafely slow just as BuickGN said. I say its dangerously slow because of the world we live in. IT did the job of coarse but I would see people around me getting mad because I was going so slow, like I was doing it on purpose, but I had the car floored! Great car but not for this time or area that I live in.

Hate to mention it but no matter how fast your car there's always going to be one faster trying to run you over.. 62 or 1000hp. Get the picture?

True but its nicer when there are a few that are faster than when everyone is faster. Get that picture?

Well, you can get away with it in a D35. There's a few of the members of 4bangers that have 35" tires. My wife is running 33" on her D35's Sahara with BFG Mall Terrains. A D44 will handle the gearing better since the pinion won't be so small. I run a TracLoc in my SE ..but I'm never going to push anything that big.

I'm sure my Tracker was one of the slowest production cars made in 2003. 127hp and 130ftlbs doesn't really push 2900-3000lbs very quickly but even when towing another 2000lbs its not dangerous. You just have to plan ahead a bit. I even pass people when towing 1000lbs or less, I just need a run at it, its not rocket science...
Anyways, I'd rather drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow anyday. Its more fun and its cheaper!

Can I get this translated to English?

When I went over to Seattle I was trying to merge onto I-5SB and discovered the merge lane is of the type that is combo'd with a offramp. Stay in the short merge lane long too long and your screwed because you have to exit. I found my 2.73 single exhaust pig barely adequate, and Im sure I [censored] off that guy in the truck trying to get off. Sorry guy!

'88 International Blue Bird bus body with a four speed auto and a 6.9 in front of it. I passed everything as long as it was parked or a stationary object :D I hated having to rescue drivers with a dead bus.
