Slowest car ever

The 4 cyls are really slow. the 4.0L are pretty nice.. lots of torque. Not fast by today's standards, but I've been in 4L manual trans Jeep and it went pretty [censored] good.

Here is what it looked like while accelerating in my old M/T 3.5SE Altima

my 240D has a 20 second acceleration to 60, or so.

I drive most vehicles with such acceleration, whether they can go faster or not... It is how I extract maximum MPGs.

Driving my 240D makes me realize that for the most part, you really do not need more than 62 hp in a 3000# car. Therefore my analysis still stands, nobody really needs more than 120hp for the most part.

First gear spun up pretty good!

It's nice they came up with a powertrain package few would choose, just for some variety out there!

62hp in a 3000lb car is dangerous.

My 71 VW window van was in the low 20's 0-60. It was quicker than stock.

My 2005 VW TDI wagon is about 12 seconds but I have never timed it.

Regular VW beetles of the late 50s early 1960s were about 30 seconds 0-60. Drove several but never owned one.

As far as need goes, what does that have to do with anything?

I have 115 hp in a 2600 lb car and it's almost dangerous dealing with the speed demons out there.

My 4.0L/5-speed Cherokee has a factory 0-60 rating of 8.1s. When it was new, it was faster than most cars on the road. Today, it still has no problem holding its own. Plenty of grunt off the line and in 5th on the highway.

Also, adding big tires and a lift kit slows down a Jeep a lot, but, speeding really isn't what they're for, is it?

Needs more gear. Then you are sacrificing highway drivability....but really, 33s with a four? T.F.? 31 would be about the most I would go and thats pushing it.

I just read my car (94 Corolla DX 1.8L 5 speed) is rated at 9.1 seconds 0 to 60 and 16.8 seconds 1/4 mile.

I can't imagine driving anything slower!

In all honesty, it's not that bad, but if you have to get around a semi or something quickly on a 2 lane road, you better drop some serious gear and jam it or you'll get run over!

35 mpg make up for it.

My old Cavi was about 12 seconds. 2.2L OHV, 3T40, 4-door. When me and my dad went through the Nevada desert he was driving his old pickup. So we double teamed getting around trucks with a pair of FRS radios he bought. He would tell me it was "Clear after [color] [vehicle type]."

55, I know. Limit is 50 and I didnt want to push it any farther.

That brings back memories Tom. A friend of mine had an old beetle with an aftermarket motor (2200 or so cc with aftermarket carbs) that would run high 14s at this altitude (likely high 13s at sea level), about as fast as a stock Mustang or Camaro.

We had more fun with that car then should be legal! The ricers just hated that car

I got 46 in a little more than 3000 lb VW Bus. 37 seconds to 60 mph. I kid you not.

If we're talking 0-60 times, the GN should be right in the 2 second range on slicks. Not sure exactly as it's impossible to time but it's pulled bottom 1.5 60' times.

TL I've seen range from a high 5 second in the TL-S manual to low 7s in the auto base model. I consider the TL "acceptable". And by that, it's decent at passing on a 2-lane highway and if traffic is heavy and you need to cut it a little closer than normal you can usually do it without getting rear ended.

One thing I like to do in the GN when it's on tire is to pull out in the right lane just as a car is getting ready to go by in the left lane (on a 3 lane road) and watch their face as I make up and surpass the 50mph speed difference before they can get beside me.

I did drive an '84 Gran Prix as a 16yr old right before I got the GN at 17 and it's 1/4 and 0-60 was similar. You had to really plan a passing event and get a nice running start.

My 1974 Mustang with a 2.something 4cyl couldn't pass a Bus off the line going downhill if it had a head start and a tail wind!

You guys must be kidding. My Accord is 3000 lb loaded and has 125hp. I have no problem merging, passing or having fun while driving.

Just keep the revs high and row through the gears.

Tested in 1993 numbers are 0-60 in 10.1 quarters in 17.6 for automatic.
