I hear all the time how you cannot re-machine a slotted rotor.

Just got my 4 factory slotteds off my car completely redone to amazing specs courtesy of my BIL's machine shop. Absolutely perfect and carefully oiled and preserved for my next brake job.

How $$$ for the 4?

It's not that you can't, it's if the lathe isn't set up correctly for it it will destroy the cutting teeth. So instead of just saying "it might work" shops say "nope new rotor" to CYA.

ooops, sorry, no price for me as we barter for services back and forth. Plus I take him to HPDE's all the time and get him seat time in some very fast machinery!

But normal pricing would have been 80 bucks plus tax for the general public.

It makes it loads easier when a family member has a machine shop.
Without installing them and using them, how can we know they are perfect? The less mass alone would make them imperfect.

What's their thickness now vs the specs in the FSM for new and min?

Since your car is very German underneath I suspect the rotors are not different, ie two sets of pads and trash because they are done.

That's not an issue for my car. It has very large rotors and 4 piston fixed calipers on all 4 wheels so braking capacity is in great excess! I out braked many very high end cars at speeds greater than 150 mph at Homestead.

Hatteras: Don't have the spec in front of me but they were carefully mic'd before hand, we have a factory service manual on CD. Absolutely the smallest cuts made, he takes his work VERY seriously. They are still within the factory spec. BTW, I have had 5 sets of pads on this car looking for the best ones, which are Stoptech.

Mechtech, the front rotors are nearly 15 inches! An ounce or two of metal removed by an expert 3rd generation machinist is unlikely to be noticeable. My BIL spends several minutes measuring the runout on the lathe as he sets up his cut, if you could see the care you'd know why I only use him!

Thanks. It is an amazing system to come on a huge 4 door luxury sedan, indeed.

Easily out stops cars that cost twice as much money, and once I found the right pad material it is even better!

Betcha I know what pad material you like!

Your BIL knows what he is doing, most rotors are turned by idiots and the results show. Which is why I gave up years ago getting anything turned.
