Actually, no. Try closer to ~$8K+ for those features. If I had the money, I'd go for the adjustable base as I tried one in the store and really liked it. The dual heated/cooled (each side separate) “upgrade" is a really cool feature and can help with the "she's colder, I'm hotter" kind of conversations but be prepared to pay through the nose.

Currently the most expensive king mattress that is not memory foam or temperature balancing (p6) is ~3600.00 with a base/legs and sleep IQ which is admittedly close to 4000.00. I still don’t think I want all that foam... and you don’t really need the legs if you have a bed frame, depending on what you have now might not even need the base.

My point is that the beds are not that expensive unless you go for options... even in my example the base and SleepIQ take a 2800.00 bed to 3600.00.

I too have one of those ~$8,000.00 quotes for a split adjustable base, i10 and everything else under the sun... Though I agree it would be really cool, I sleep pretty well without it.

I think a lot of people walk into the store looking for a mattress and walk out with a complete turn key bed with a ton of options.

I’m into mine for less than $1300.00 and I sleep well and my back and neck don’t hurt anymore so I’m happy

I’m also not saying anything against anyone who does buy the options, just understand what you are getting (like anything else) and know that “SleepNumber” does not have to equal “$5000.00”.

I will also add that when I ordered mine they were in the middle of a software change (they had a notice on their website that it might create problems. That was an understatement the ordering/ process was a nightmare and poorly explained (for instance that the base would come well before the mattress”. Everyone I spoke to was genuinely helpful and very good customer service (particularly considering they were probably getting yelled at all day). But it was still very frustrating to the point I almost cancelled the order. In the end it worked out and I’m glad I didn’t cancel. I assume they have that ironed out by now.

Wow, this is weird, ran in to this thread and see your post of all people.

We have a memory foam now, been thinking about a Select Comfort for a long time, we arent big spenders on mattresses, simply because very good mattresses can be bought at very good prices and bad mattresses can be bought at high prices, but I do need a firm mattress, the memory foam (super firm) has been great these past few years, not sure if its me or the foam got softer. Add to that my wife always loved the idea of the Select Comfort Mattresses.

Long story short, I dont think I am missing anything here but the Select Comfort C2 can be bought this month for $599.00 which seems great.
I guess there is no "catch" if you simply walk in the store and tell them to deliver the mattress for the $599.00 price. Plus tax and delivery I guess. Seems like a no brainier, only thing that bothers me is these things get leaks? :o)

Well, I wasn't seriously looking for a mattress until I saw this thread this morning.
Just returned home from the Sleep Number store and ordered the C2.
Wife and I were always curious about them,(ironically we pass the factory or distribution center everyday on the interstate) being on sale right now it was a no brainer.
$745.00 out the door, includes tax and delivery, delivered UPS. We are going to assemble ourselves. Did not go for any options, comes with one digital remote and using our own foundation.

It was great reading everyone's comments, big help, thanks!

Ive long desired a sleep number bed, and one can be had for a few thousand... But if I understand it correctly, you lose any underbed storage, and there still is a pillow top type thing that can compress.

Our matress was customized per side, and we generally like it, but its near time to replace. It has sagged beyond spec, on my wife's side (and she is athletic and average weight, not some large, heavy person), so I think we may be getting a replacement free.

Ive started taking notes in hotels. I think next time I buy a mattress, it will be a reasonably firm one that we can flip, and then use a memory foam topper of our own choice.

Like any bed, depends on what foundation you choose as far as storage.
Our Sleep Number C2 will be at our house in 2 weeks delivered for $745.00 not thousands.
On sale this month ... click C2

I have a "sleigh" type wood bed frame with plenty of under-bed storage, no change over the old foam mattress we had. I think it may depend more on what additional features you buy, like the the tilt feature. The foam topper is optional and we bought it more for the "cooling" effect advertised. After 5 years, I don't see any significant compression of the optional topper (which is replaceable/removable as desired on our model). YMMV.

Only under bed storage space I lost is a very small area where the pump sits, and I am talking a ~18" square. I have a standard bed frame, similar to what you would use for any box spring mattress. I keep my full size suitcase along with shoes under my side, my wife has some 6-8" Tupperware bins under her side.

Just an update, we canceled the Sleepnumber C2 bed. It was an impulse buy, saw the sale but after thinking about it, we like to research things and some reviews scared us.
We are good with our memory foam so there is no rush. I see Sams Club also sells a nation brand "air" bed too.
Anyway, my wife called Sleep Number just yesterday to cancel, 2 days after we ordered it. No problem, credit is already on her credit card.

I've not done so (as I'm a happy SNB user), but the "Casper" bed commercials on TV look interesting and something perhaps worth checking out.

Well there is a 100 or so night guarantee (it doesn’t cover bases and such though) so it was at least a low risk impulse buy.

Not sure if this is relevant thread but for the future, we bought a latex mattress after Ronalds post but from a different place. We preferred an organic organic bunk bed mattress as we had bought an organic futon from them before.

Not a great fan of sleep number, tried in multiple hotels.
