Slate EV Pickup

Help me here... Is
SLATE a sideways
TESLA of some kind?

The truck Elon shoulda built? Asking for a friend...
I think Tesla would have killed if they made a truck under $50k that was a bit less polarizing. They stole the market for crossovers with the Model Y and I think they could have done the same with the midsize truck market.

I think it's smart what Slate is doing here. The full size truck market is pretty locked in. I think the smaller truck market it is up for grabs and more open to EVs.

I couldn't put my finger on it, but I kept staring at the name "SLATE". Wonder how they came up with that name?
You know, that could be it.

Alright, I like it. (I love the little Bluetooth speaker mount they have!)

I think they are smaller than I first thought... But stiil, a move in the right direction, IMO. Probably a lotta room for growth if the SLATE takes off.

As opposed to US auto industry which “apparently” needed meddling that was dialed back on the daily whim. Curious if you agree with that?
We are talking EVs in this thread, so I'll stick to the topic. I think the EV incentive should go away and let them sink or swim on their own merit, in fact we should have never offered it. That goes for anyone making or selling an EV. JMO.

US built pickups is born and protected by some ridiculous chicken tax/tariff, the EV credit is icing on the cake for Slate.

I think it could be argued whether or not the incentive was necessary to get the industry off the ground or not, but I think it's fair to say it should stand on its own now. It's more than well enough established to not need it. I'd still choose one over the ICE alternative for a daily driver. Even with not getting a $7,500 incentive the cost of electricity vs gas and the convenience of not stopping for gas more than makes up for it for me. I only qualified for the credit on one of my cars anyway.

A step in the right direction IMO.

It seems however they might have went a bit to far with the minimalist theme just to prove a point at the cost of the users creature comfort.

The power windows I would be willing to live without, not a big deal.

No radio? Really? Even just the most basic am/fm with blue tooth and 2 speakers in the dash would make this so much more appealing. I would suspect the aftermarket will step in here if these actually make it to market and become popular.

Also I don’t see one cupholder? Again, I think this is more just to make a statement but maybe that’s going a bit too far?

Still would rather this than the usual screens everywhere and a bunch of “features” I won’t use and don’t want.
The cupholder one is interesting. Many years ago not sure if it was Top Gear or not but someone being interviewed mentioned that they were shocked that cars had cupholders, especially that large. It was more or less that Americans eat and drink soda in their vehicles. I don't think I've seen a car without cupholders in decades.

Meh, I get where you're coming from, but if it wasn't for incentives I would not be able to afford them. I used the $4K used EV credit once on a Bolt and the $7500 new credits on the 2024 Prologue and 2025 Equinox EV. So, I do appreciate it. I'd probably still be driving my gas 2010 Ford Escape otherwise haha.

What a great fleet vehicle for delivery, small utility , municipalities etc. Some people will buy it too.

It’s coming under wrong admin for incentives/ ordering.

I agree that fleets are going to LOVE this thing. I still think as a daily driver for most people the $35K Equinox EV makes more sense than the $25K Slate. But that's just my opinion. Maybe I'm biased but a "traditional" interior with four doors and a nice infotainment and stereo system is worth a lot.

You and a lot of other people. ;)

You wouldn't have considered a more affordable vehicle instead? On a quick glance there are some EVs in that segment that are more affordable than the Prologue if EV was the biggest consideration and the tax credit was the make or break for the sale. I only mention this because at the time of the purchase of our Model 3 the tax credit lapsed. I did get it with the Model Y.
