ok, well, I've owned a 4wd before and no, this is NOT a 4WD -

and yes, I ordered the part by the VIN# - the Ford guy even printed out for me a schematic of the entire rear end showing all the parts, including the cover


a real problem here in the Bronx, where I live, is that so many garages are Spanish-speaking and I can't get a straight/clear answer about a lot of this!! and if I random call people they are busy (I was calling upstate NY dealerships trying to get answers)

the local Midas that I went to was the first native English speaking mechanic I found in the area - I know another good mechanic over in PA but he's a good 2 hr drive away!! but thinking about going there - this is nuts!!

Ok, in that case it does have exposed tone rings on the brake rotors. If the light doesn't come back, I wouldn't worry too much.

That also would explain why you had to order the diff cover. 7.5" diff covers aren't as common to find on the shelf at parts stores. If your truck is 2WD and 3.0, it has a 7.5" diff.

Covers for 8.8" diffs are pretty easy to find as I found out today...$17.99 at Auto Zone. I decided to reseal the cover on my 1994 Ranger due to a leak, and it turns out its factory cover was plastic. No wonder it had no rust. A small chunk came off the flange next to a bolt hole though, so I decided to replace it. The steel Dorman replacement from Auto Zone came unpainted, just plated. It looked nice enough, but I decided to paint it with some Rustoleum semi gloss black paint.
