Sisters 4Runner

Long story short my sister has an 08 Toyota 4Runner V6 and she has fallen on some hard times so to save her some $ I told her I would change her oil for free if she pays for the oil. So her husband passed away last year and he has a stash of 10w40 in different brands he use to run in his old plow truck that is now gone. Can I run this in her 4Runner this spring and summer?

Absolutely. It won't hurt a thing. I had 5w-40 in my Tacoma of the same year for the sake of consistency.

MA? This is the 4.0 V6 is it not? IIRC there are some FJ owners using 40w with no issues, so in summer I do not see a problem with it.

It'll be fine in warm weather. If it's really cold where you're at now, I'd go with 0w or 5w at least.

Honestly,I'd just go buy a jug of oem spec oil for her car. Oil is cheap.

I believe the 4Runner is spected for 5w30. Why are you considering changing to a 40?

IMO.....Pennzoil 5w30 conventional (conventional) should be perfect....with a 5000 OCI.

If you plan on using the 5w40 stash.....thin it down with half of 5w20...to keep it close to Toyota specs....and use a Fram Ultra filter (for two OCI's).

Use the 10w40 without worry. Use a Super Tech oil filter or Tough Guard filter also

Pennzoil Conventional isnt what it used to be either

Lots of people in Oz use 10W40 in those Toyota V6 engines without any problem.

I would definitely use it.
