Simpletire Trailer Tire age

How old of a tire would you accept when you order tires online? Just received my recent order from Simpletire for a Hankook Vantra trailer tire and it was manufactured the 48th week of 2020. So it is pretty much exactly 4.5 years old.

I've ordered these tires in the past from Tirerack and gotten much more recent dates, but I tried Simpletire this time as the price was $40 cheaper per tire... Appears that I may have found out why...

At least Tire Rack lets you know when they discount tires with age (and noting that that they are doing that with tires with a 2022 manufacture date currently).

Will see what Simpletire does...
 
Too old for my taste. As panthermike stated, I prefer one year or less. I have accepted up to two years, if it is a specialty or low production tire where they are only manufacturered every two or three years, then I can understand. For a common tire size or type, I would prefer much shorter. I will pay more or change brands if I must, before accepting an older tire.

Trailer tires usually age out before they wear out for me.

I recall someone mentioned (not sure if here or another forum) that most of these lesser known tire retailers are selling older stock they pick up either from the manufacturers or from retailers. He said he called or emailed before purchase and most confirmed they had older stock, or simply wouldn't answer the question.

Tires were not marked on sale or any other type of indication it was old stock. If it were, I would not have bought.

These go on a boat trailer that I run a three tire rotation on with the oldest becoming the spare. They never physically wear out, they all "time" out.
 
While a stored 4.5 year old new tire isnt the same as one you have had on your trailer 4.5 years.. that would be too long for me.

Contact them.. maybe if they gave you 40% back I'd keep them.
If you return them paying return shipping could be a $$$ pain.
 
Does simpletire offer any guarantee on the age of their tires? :unsure:

In MN, 4.5 years probably isn't a problem, since it's cold up there and tires last longer. If you were in Texas or Arizona, it would be more of a concern.
 
I bought a set of Firestone Indy 500 tires from Tirerack as 2022 production at a significant discount, (stated production). They ended up being 2023. Knowing my Mustang gets about 500 miles per year and is always garaged, we should be good for some years to come. On top of the super discount, there was a rebate, too.
