Maybe my eyes are playing games, but are the data & power connectors for a 3.5 SATA the same as for a 2.5 SATA?

I bought this test package of parts on Amazon, that has a power supply, power connector to go to a IDE, a power connector for SATA and a USB data adapter to go to IDE and a cable off the adapter to go to SATA. The directions say for 2.5 or 3.5" drives. Pulled a SATA HD out of a laptop and neither the data or power connectors fit.

I believe this is it:

Right they are the same.

Usually when you take the hard drive out of the laptop it has some connector/bracket which you have to remove. Then you can see the power and sata connector.

That was it. The last one I fooled with had no connector/bracket. Thanks.
