A friend of mine growing up lived in a big old home built for someone wealthy. It had a main staircase but there was also a spiral staircase in the kitchen.
Imagine if he wants to play baseball and tries out for a team. He gets to compete only for 55.5% of the positions. Right handed players get a chance at 100%. The fix is easy. Make third base, first base.
By the time you're fighting there, the castle is lost.
BTW, some spiral left, some right. And in that picture the fighter standing higher is at a serious disadvantage, you kinda need your feet and legs but can't defend them there.
When I was in kindergarten the teacher tried to force me to write right handed . It didn't turn out too well and my Mom finally had to intervene with the school . Yeah , Catholic school ...
I narrowly dodged that particular bullet back in Grade 1. Miss Graham was a an old-school sort, and I have a strong memory of her and the younger and kinder principal, Miss Hersom, hovering over my desk and discussing my "disability":
Miss Graham: "Well, I don't think it's right! He should learn to write properly like the other children!"
Miss Hersom: "Well, they now say it's better to let them write with whichever hand they choose, so I think we should respect that."
And how long ago was this? Well, JFK would remain president for another couple of months.
At six, I did not have the foresight to tell Miss Graham that future American presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, and Obama would all be lefties.
