North America is losing the manual. The rest of the world still has plenty of options. My VW Golf rental in Milan and some kind of Opel in London we’re both manuals a couple of years ago. Drive a right hand drive manual through London upon landing for fun.
I would more than welcome this sign with open arms, because I hate anyone other than me driving my car Another reason why I love owning cars with a standard transmission. No one will ever ask to borrow or drive your car.
My friend couldn’t his car broke down and my spare was a manual.
After having to drive him around and listen to noise…
I made him learn the extremely complicated process of pushing in the clutch, shifting and giving a little gas and slowly releasing the clutch pedal .
He got it the first time but was afraid to shift out of 1st.
He learned he could take off in 2nd, which I thought was stupid but whatever.
The car had airplane gears and was good to 40 in 1st, told him as long as he paid for gas, oil, etc and was only driving in the 25mph town roads, just leave it in 1st, he was responsible if anything broke.
Said experience motivated him to get his car repaired
That same backup Car is becoming once again my main ride due to lack of parts, personnel and viable car purchase options.
I know a lot of people who don't know how to drive a standard. My 300ZX shifts so smooth and precise that you can even shift it effortlessly without the clutch. Goes right into gear. Those cars have excellent standard transmissions.
