So my 4.3 sierra with the 5 speed transmission started leaking from the top. I thought at first it was just the fluid level over full but I checked and it was fine. I even drained all the gear oil and replaced it. The [censored] thing still leaks. It is leaking from the top of the transmission where it meets the rubber bushing deal that covers the shifter.

The model transmission is a nv3500. I am certain for a fact it is leaking from there, I checked the rear seal and all the sensors for leaks and they are good. I actully can see the fluid come from there down to the ground hehe.

what causes this and do I have to drop the transmission to fix it.

ahh, after reading it could be a simple fiber gasket that needs replacement. Looks easy enough thank you.
