Side load garbage trucks

We've had that here for several years. Everything goes in the cans, if it's too big, you call a services # and they schedule a curbside pickup. It actually works pretty well here. At least it's better then the old curbside program.

I don't know that it's really much if any faster. With the rear load trucks you would have one guy driving and two guys on the back of the truck. They can pick up trash from both sides of the street at the same time. The side load truck has to go up and down each street where the rear load truck only has to make one pass. The real advantage comes by only having to pay one person instead of 3. You also don't have the safety risk with guys riding on the outside of a moving truck and manually handling all that trash.


If you only need 1 / 3 the labor, isn't that 3x as fast for the same labor cost? (the truck is free relative to labor cost).

Ergonomics injury of lifting cans all day will take a toll on workers comp and the work they will do, eventually.
 
Some of our 1 arm bandits pick up close to 1000 stops a day,that's alot of stops.We use some for trash and some for recycling.
