Sick of Windows 7's inept search utility?

Is there a good way to learn to use the obscure commands and settings for those of us who can't mod their W7 install with new SW?

The search sure is horrible!

can't stand Windows 8, and I don't think there's anything wrong with the built in search function in Windows 7. I always find the files I am looking for.

I've found it tough to make Windows search everywhere for files. There's always some location it leaves out of the search unless you know the exact Druidic runes to make it search there too.

But finding TEXT WITHIN FILES is the major problem. I'm assuming you've solved that. So how do you manage to make your system find text within files, and to do so even when you don't know exactly where the files are?

I'm not sure there is any fix that can be applied to the native Win7 search function.

I tried everything I could find on Google relating to improving Windows 7's search, but nothing worked the way I needed it to. So I gave up and installed Agent Ransack. Prior to that, I had tried Google Desktop, but while GD worked great on XP, it was flaky on 7.
