Shower Temp Limiter

I‘ll be calling up Delta Faucet on Monday but I wanted to know if anyone can help me with this. I have a Delta shower control that limits the shower water temp to 98 F. This is great for folks who might be prone to accidentally turning the temp too high. I believe Delta calls this their Monitor series.

I, however would like a higher temp limit, say 105 to 110. My water in my hot water tank is 140 F, ( which is supplied by the heat exchanger from my boiler) and I find my water in my hot water faucet in my bathroom is 138 F.

The internet seems to say the max temp of a shower should be no more than 110 F. Does any one know how to up the temp limit the Monitor series by just changing the cartridge?

Thanks everyone. I checked the recommendations on the water tank max in BC and will lower it to 120 F. I'll adjust the shower up To 110F. Thanks for your help.

Storage-type water heaters use 140F because at lower temperatures, bacterial growth can be a problem. You can set on-demand types to a lower temperature but it's not recommended for storage (tank) water heaters. Temperature limits below 140F should be done by point-of-use mixer valves (what you have).

A 120F limit sounds to me like the green energy types have somehow managed to start writing the recommendations. Be careful; they get carried away sometimes (eg CFL bulbs, which leach Mercury into the water table). Insulate your water heater instead.

Well sometimes there's warnings at the bathrooms where it says slippery when wet. And it's much more sanitary when there's toilets so I guess that's a special required equipment.

That setting has been around in the state sanitary code for decades. In the past before the mixing valve, people used to get scalded by hot water when the pressure changed.

It's a safety issue, just like seat belts, ABS, stability control, rear view cameras, side impact, air bags, etc.

Well we're all switching over to LEDs. I've mostly got rid of my remaining CFLs by putting them in buildings that are being sold...

As for insulating them, I've seen very few houses that actually do that and although you can do it, a modern water heater doesn't really need it. You can tell just by putting your hand on one, if it feels cool, it's probably already well insulated and adding more won't really help anyway. Plus there's a concern with gas water heaters that if it's improperly installed, it could catch on fire. Remember it was the insulation on the side of a building in England that caused the whole building to go up in flames.
