Every engine needs a spec so they put one on it but they seem to be rather useless IMHO. My Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel, 6.2L GMC, and LandRover Discovery TD5 all ended up having large changes to their initial specs and generally all for the same reason. They were trying to run thinner oils for higher mpg numbers. Whether or not an oil goes through the spec process doesn't really matter to me. I'll never doubt RedLine 5w30 can handle a B58. We ran Rotella T6 in absolutely everything from ATVs to diesels to my mother's Subaru to my Yamaha 225 SHO tuned outboard. Now I run Molygen in everything except a duramax because it's quality and I use FCP for it.
