Should new ball shafts joints have any slop?

I got some new control arms from rockauto and I notice that if I use my hand to move the ball joint shaft on one of them the shaft will move, but it will rigidly stay in the position I pushed it to. On the other, if I push the shaft, it will move and stay at the position, but then start to kind of snap back up to center if I lightly tap it.

I'm confident the first one is good, but I'm not sure about the second.

Yes. I decided to replace the second one however.

It's just such an expensive and time consuming job. I'll eat the return shipping fee for piece of mind.

What brand are they, and what level, ie bottom line, better or top?
