Hi folks, I just acquired a new Volks Rabbit 2007. I was wondering about the choice of oil to put in the engine. since the most inexpensive oil that support the norm VW 502 is Castrol Syntec , my choice ends there ( I got a rental

). The books says put any good syntetic 5w40 oil that support VW 502. If 5w40 is unavaible you may use 5w30.

So My Canadian tire store have right now 15 six pack of that green castrol, should i buy that or stick with the 5w40 ?

Iknow that the 0w30 is VW502.

The engine is a straight five , 2.5L ,20 valve dual overcam , variable valve stuf and it got a massive 5.8 quart sump ...

would you recommand me the 0w30 over the 5w40 ?

GC 0w30 should work very well in any engine which normally calls for 5w40, since most 5w40s will thin out to a high 30wt anyhow, while GC retains it's viscosity very well and stays as a thicker 30wt for the entire interval.

My mom's 2.0L VW Golf calls for 5w40 and I put in GC 0w30 and have gotten an excellent oil analysis report with it.

GC is a phenomenal oil and there is no problem in using it, BUT it is not on the VW approved list and while in warranty it might not be the best bet.

VW dealers have been very shady on any repairs and giving them extra ammo, considering their incompetence or ignorance, they might give you a hard time if they start questioning what oil you used.

I used it and had no problems what so ever, and was very happy with it.
Mobil 1 0w-40 which I ran prior to GC thinned out to a 30, while GC stayed on point and was .1 under 40. Mobil was even under that and it was suppose dto be VW 502.00.

I thought that GC met all of the VW specs... Regardless, GC is such a good oil, I would use it.

VWoA, and presumably VWoC, are mainly concerned that you do not use a conventional motor oil, or an entirely inappropriate synthetic. So no Pennzoil 10w30 and no MC 0w20.

The VW owner's manuals have been screwed up for years and years. For example, the 2004 TDIs required an oil which met the VW505.01 spec -- but the 2004 owners manual didn't say a thing about it, and many of the 2005 owner's manuals as well.

The German Castrol 0w30 is probably a better motor oil than the dealership uses when it changes the customers' oil.

But save your receipts, document your oil changes, and if a warranty repair is ever challenged because of the oil you chose, ask them to prove it. The burden of proof lies with them, not with you. They must prove the oil caused the problem.

I just Love it , I have own 5 Vw's in my life from generation 2 to 5 , and this is a hudge step foward.

The trans is the 6 speed automatic with tiptronic (not the fabulous DSG) the engine is a straight five, wich sound a bit funny when cold, but it seems that is the same for all five cylinder engine. it got a lot of torque . The handling confort and noise insulation is very impressive. The feeling of the car is rock solid ( use of extensive lazer weld in the manufacturing process). The steering is entirely electro-mechanical, and it is very precise and enjoyable. The brakes are 4 disc with ABS and electronic force distribution. they work much better that the previous gen , wich were pretty good.

I think that if reliability is there , it's one of the finest hatch money can buy , ans it's a great value.

By the way the car is manufactured in Germany in the Wolfburg plant , the engine is made in Mexico, then ship in Wolfburg.

Go have a test drive , and all question will become verry clear , the two only complaints are... they are going like hot breads... verry hard to order one and the desing of the center console where the shifter sits , is like the Audi TT and me right knee keeps getting in contact with it
