Have you cut any open and measured the filter area? A larger can is no guarantee of more filter area. You could have a big empty can with less capacity, but more vulnerable to mechanical damage. Watch the bypass settings too.

I cut open a 2 st6607(non e-cores) and a gl14612. the filter cartridge of the st6607 would slide into the space where the media goes on the cartridge of the gl14612,the gl14612 had about 3/8 inch more in media highth and was about 6inches longer. the gl14612 had nice tighgt spacing between the pleats both the st6607's had big gaps. One ofthe st6607 had torn media near the end cap it had 4000 miles on it the other had no problems with about 2600 miles on it the gl14612 had no problems with about 3500 miles. I have not cut open a 7317 yet but I will when I change the oil next.

Putting all three of those numbers back into Wix yields

B1400 -51365
B1402 -51356
B1431 -51356

Donaldson also only yields two part numbers for all three Baldwin #.

I don't know if this answered your question ..but you appear to have few options. I don't think that you, or your engine, will see much difference.

My 98 mazda 626 2.0 calls for a tg6607(wix# 51365). I currently have a tg7317(51356) on it should I continue to use this filter or not? I have noticed that the gl14612(micro-gard) is slightly longer than the 6607 but shorter than the 7317.

I have deciced to use the gl14612(micro-gard). I was reading the box and noticed itsaid "manufactured by ArvinMeritor, inc" ,so I went to there web site and read that they make purolater and that they are Oe filters for mazda and that was good enough for me...

thanks for the input guys....
