My Yamaha FJR has a oil level window and when I checked it right after riding home from work (27 miles), I saw a layer of bubbles on top of the oil. They dispersed fairly quickly over about 1 min as I watched.

I guess I've never noticed that before and am wondering if it indicates anything bad? Since the oil lubricates the transmission as well as the engine, do the gears just naturally froth things up a bit? Is foam in the oil a greater problem in motorcycles and can it cause any harm?

The bike is running fine and the oil is Rotella-T-Synthetic 5w40 with about 2200 miles on the change. I was planning to change the oil anyway and have sent a sample into Blackstone for analysis.
