Should I keep running the same oil?

Im currently running Mobil 1 10w30 HM and was a little worried about how it would do in the winter. I picked up some Castrol EDGE 5w30 onsale at the local autoparts store. should I change the oil and put the edge in or go back with the Mobil 1 High Mileage I plan on doing a used oil analysis with when I change it also engine has 95550miles

I ran the same stuff in the winter a couple times a few years ago. I had no issue in Canadian winters. I am sure there are perhaps better choices, but it worked OK for me at low temps.

I'd run the Edge. Little better on cold mornings and you'll get some good wear numbers.

What's the differences in Pour #'s? It cannot be that different?

I'd just keep the Mobil 1 High Mileage, unless its due for a change.

I would use the Edge. It runs thin which is good for the upcoming winter. I'm planning on using 5w30 Edge this winter as well

Yeah its time to change it in a few hundred miles

Castrol's Australia site states their 5w30 has a pour point of -39C.

Mobil 1 10w30HM PP is -54c

While Edge has lower visc. at 40C, it appears that the Mobil 1 overtakes it at some point, and may actually flow better in truly cold conditions.

Maybe some freezer testing is in order?!
