just curious to know if anyone has been running the "new" castrol edge sytec? i noticed it the other night at the autoparts store and wanted to hear some feedback on it. how does it compare to mobil 1 and Synpower? i have yet to see any used oil analysis on it so let share some thoughts and opinions here

Wish I could chime in on how I feel about it. Bought 10 quarts of 0w30 and I am running it in the car right now. Problem is, it is my first oil change in my new to me car. Looking forward to see what others say, though!

I haven't tried the new syntec edge, but if it is anything like the old edge, it is great stuff! We used it and it delivered a beautiful analysis in our Toyota.

And it's only SL rated; not too many applications left for this stuff aside from Bimmers and the like.

Last time I changed the oil in my GTi, I saw that the Syntec 5w40 that I normally use was now re-badged as Edge. Same oil, from what I can tell. Same VW, BMW, Merc specifications. It was, of course, slightly more expensive than it was when I last bought it under the plain Syntec name.

I saw a Castrol Edge with SPT 0w30 European Formula in walmart awhile ago (New Westminster, BC)... it has a SL rating and it says Made in Germany at the back of the bottle.. it was selling 1 liter for under $12

Thorzdad,

385,000 on the Maxima? What have you been running? How does she run? That is awesome!

I used it the first time I changed oil in my Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, and I had no complaints. That in mind, I have no idea how good it really is.

My car currently has Gold Edge in it, and that is what I have used for the last few oil changes.

Well, I just bought a 2006 Chevy Colorado with the 3.5L I5 and 41k on the odometer. It came from the dealer with Pennzoil Conventional 5w30[bulk] and a 'Performax' filter.

I changed the oil to GC 0W30 and a Purolator PureOne filter. The first thing I noticed was the idle is a bit smoother, and initial pull from a stop seems improved.

Seeing as this is my first auto with an OLM, I plan on running this 6-7k or when the OLM says to change, whichever comes first.
