Castrol Syntec...No. 1 syn in Canada?

On TV recently in Canada, they are running adds to 'educate' people about Castrols switch from 'Syntec' synthetic oil to 'Edge with Sytec technology'.

In the add, they claim Sytec is the No.1 selling syn oil in Canada. I was suprised - I thought M1 was the No. 1 syn oil in Canada and the US by far.

I know Sytec is often the cheapest, and Castrol supplies a LOT of QL places, and heavily promotes Syntec oil changes, but I was still suprised.

One needs to read the fine print to understand what an advertiser bases his claims on. As you pointed out, they may be including fleet/wholesale sales in it. They may also be referring to just one particular grade that just happens to outsell the same grade from other competitors.

Remember Valvoline claiming 8x less wear than M1 a few years back? That was only related to one particular grade of M1 that they tested.

It wouldn't surprise me.
Mobil 1 oils are more expensive than Syntec in Canada but Edge, again due to pricing, has been a total flop.

That depends where you go. If you're stuck with Walmart or CT regular prices (or even their occasional rollbacks), Syntec tends to be a bit cheaper, aside from weird, rare specials (like the current CT Mobil 1 sale). Regular price at, say, RCWC is equivalent to the sale prices at Walmart and CT.

I have no idea what Imperial Oil charges. However, Oil Marts (where available), charge about $6 per litre, and that's based upon the 1L bottles.

As for Edge, that certainly is way out in left field with respect to pricing. With PU being a bit of a unicorn out there, Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Edge are stuck by themselves in the ultra-high price zone.
