'98 Jeep 5.9 Magnum V8, 178k, Mobil 1 10w30 since 66k...
Vehicle was retired as a DD 6 months ago and has only seen 400 miles over the last 6 months...Right now there is a fill of Mobil 1 High Mileage formula in the crankcase with 2k on it.
I have been waiting to switch the Jeep to Castrol High Mileage dino for the next OCI. I know that the Mobil 1 under normal circumstances should have plenty of life left on it, but I am wondering if the acids in the oil that are marinating in the cold garage are hurting anything and if I should just change it now since it has been sitting for 6 months out of service for the (most part).
OR...if the Mobil 1 can stay in the crankcase without issue until it reaches the normal interval I usually go, or 1yr total (whichever comes 1st)?
I am wanting to switch to the Castrol for the added ZDDP and stuff and also because dino is cheaper and can just be changed affordably every 6 months; regardless of miles.
Thoughts...
