Changing with 10w30 in your climate I agree is the way to go. If you're worried about cleanliness, do a couple of short intervals with Pennzoil Conventional (formerly Pennzoil conventional) then move to your choice of oil.

I always change the oil right away on any used car I buy, even if it looks like the oil might have just been changed. It's mainly because I know it most likely won't have synthetic oil in there, and I prefer to run nothing but synthetic in all of my cars.

Ya we don't do many oil changes. We usually use napa or proline oil when we do unless a customer has a preference or a car calls for something special
If it does I make sure to use the proper spec oil.
It's my understanding that our "new" Toyota can have timing chain problems if an out of spec oil or dirty oil is used in them.

Last 2 cars I bought had fresh oil changes according to salesman and carfax. Guess what neither were changed. One had sludge and one still had factory oil with stickers showing oil change. I felt stupid when I checked sticker on Caravan when I noticed next oil change was due at 27k or 3 months and vehicle had 3k on it. After sales both maintenance items were deleted from carfax so that is why I wouldn't trust salesman.

All that stuff is on my list. Trans is my next priority but it does not use a dipstick. I have been researching it and it looks pretty easy when my lift gets free. Axles are full and clean,not black. Coolant is pink. Brake fluid and ps need done after the trans.
