Should I change after 8 mos/2,300 miles?

I would not waste good synthetic oil on an engine driven this little. I would use any name brand dino, and change the oil at 6 month intervals...
... Since I have been retired, my yearly mileage is now about 6,000, and I use name brand dino, changed at 6 month intervals. Can't see wasting good synthetic by using a one year OCI when that would only be 6000 miles.

So go 24 months on M1 instead of 12. Then you could just change your filter at 12 mo intervals (to avoid media breakdown). Or, if you really want to go the dino route, use a dual-rated oil & go back to 1 yr OCIs.

No, my limit is one year OCI's with real synthetic, or 6 months with dino. I also have a 5000 mile OCI limit when using dino.

To the OP: Get a new job, that requires a good 30 minute drive into work, so that you can drive the Miata as it was intended: Top down, heavy throttle, nice spirited manuvers, curvy roads...then you'll drive enough miles to change the oil every 3-6 months. There. Solved!

Why? Do you have data showing these times/mileages are the maximum allowable for your vehicles? That's a shame!

UOAs on my car have shown that it's happy going 2 yrs/20k mi on dual-rated M1 0W-40. Don't forget, a good name-brand dual-rated dino oil (like Mobil's Delvac 1300 Super) is going to built from Group II+ base oils and have more anti-wear & detergent additives than a gasoline-only motor oil. 1 yr/6k mi OCIs should be easy for a 10w30 or 15w40 of this construction.
