If the small Linux operating system was developed for security from the start (like OpenBSD) it should provide plenty of security.

What's this Qwest device you speak of? I thought they were just a DSL provider?

I have to use a Qwest modem/router with my Qwest service. I checked with their tech support (if you can actually call it tech support) and they claim I have to use one of their modem/routers.

I'm going to say that if it's DSL, then that is complete and utter garbage. They lied to you.

It would appear as though people are using all sorts of modems with this service, from D-Link to Actiontec. So you likely have plenty of choice and could even use something like a Cisco 857, 867 or 877 which you could find on E-bay.

Thanks OVERKILL! I am no expert on modem/routers. I would just like to use a real modem/router rather than the Qwest junk. The last time I talked to so-called tech support at Qwest the woman I talked to did not know if the Qwest modem/routers had hardware firewalls or not-she had to check. She came back and said she didn't think so.

I would like to get a real modem/router with at least a NAT hardware firewall or preferably running a compact and secure Linux operating system.

The Qwest stuff is unbelievably bad.
