Shortages.....

I got a Rheem 97% efficient furnace installed at the beginning of this year I believe late January early February, got a fantastic price on it installed. One of their top of the line models. The installer also had a coupon for a free Aprilaire whole house humidifier if you bought the furnace. Nobody could believe the deal. I guess timing is everything. It is weird there is a furnace shortage. That means you are not going to get good deals either.

By the way I can recommend Rheem to anyone, it is two stage burner, completely silent, and the house comfort is like night and day compared to the old furnace I had. I actually turn down the thermostat because the heat is so even. It’s a two stage burner and continuously variable speed fan not fixed speeds.
I feel like silent running furnaces are under rated. My old house had an older 80% and there was no mistaking when it kicked on... the York 95% in our new house is incredibly quiet, but does not have a 2 stage burner or variable fan speed. Did they replace your AC unit as well?

As for shortages... I noticed at work they are using a few more suppliers for raw stock than normal.

While those features cost a little more, usually on the rebates for heating systems, those features will net you a higher rebate so they might pay for themselves. I wonder how many people actually do a manual J calculation when replacing a heating system. Those 80% systems replaced by a 97% could be replaced by a smaller system as a 105k btu system at 80% could be an 85k system at 97%.

Last summer one of my brothers took a financial hit when a board on his expensive high efficiency heat-pump fried and no replacement was available. The system was not very old and he had to get a whole new system. Ouch.
Unfortunately, heat and electronics do not go well together. Often your energy savings already accrued get offset by the high replacement costs of those components in a high efficiency furnace.

My new ductless mini split heating systems is saving me around $50 per month in cooling, and so far about $150 per month in heating.

The circuit board is $100, (already checked)

Bids were unrealisticly high for a complete installation, I had been warned of this. I did it myself for less than $4,000 all in, tools, equipment, electrical, everything.

Everything was available online and delivered quickly.

Now I get to see how the system holds up long term.

The TP shortage is not supply driven. Hoarding is the issue. The only reason there is even a run on TP is because Australia actually gets a lot of theirs from China who stopped shipping it. The media whipped it into a worldwide issue instead of a very localized problem. Alberta and BC pulp mills are working at normal capacity...there is no shortage but I'll sell you a roll if you need it.
I’m not sure hoarding is that big of an issue. People are using the bathroom at home way more than before. People aren’t going out as often shopping, and they’re working from home. Have to buy TP for home use. Commercial TP is totally different.

One of my first pandemic purchases was a bidet toilet seat and it has paid itself off pretty quickly in TP use reduced by 90+% so I am ready for another TP shortage. If worse comes to worse I can use some old rags for the pat dry.

As far as shortages I can attest to the kitchen appliance shortage. Last month I thought my fridge kicked the bucket as I came home one day from work and it was warm so it must have stopped cooling at least the night before. Earliest Home Depot or Brandsmart could get me what I wanted was 1.5 months out, thought I was totally screwed and eating out for a month. Next day fridge started cooling again so I know I am living on borrowed time, have been limping the appliances along until I can gut and remodel my kitchen. The fridge not cooling that day has pulled forward the gut and remodel project by about 1 year so fingers crossed I can get all that knocked out before this fridge completely bites the dust.

meadow,I know what you are saying about electrical panels, I work for Square D and we are working 7 days a week making electrical panel and cannot keep up with demand. Small breakers that are used in these panels are even worse.
Are you telling me I will not be able to get breakers if I luck out and get an electrical panel?
