Ammo prices seem to be rocketing upwards, namely talking about sporting chains now (we all know about the gougers but chains usually arent one of them); at least in the handgun dept. A box of Federal 9mm that cost me $14.99 last month is now $18. Blazer went up a buck, and Defense rounds are $30 in some places. Seriously considered buying a .22 pistol today. Really?

The gun blitz really helped demonstrate how faithful and honest most companies are.

Expect prices to settle eventually when demand falls and companies are forced to actually compete again.

Ammo has gotten ridiculous. Here you're lucky to get anything, if you stand and wait for the stores to open the morning the shipment comes in. 22? Nonexistent on shelves. Only things that are on shelves are normally oddball rounds that nobody uses, but those are scarce now

Here in the this area .22 Long Rifle is difficult at best to buy. 9MM FMJ 50 rounds can be had as low as $12.99. Quite a bit of different brands running between $12.99 and $14.99. Hollow point defense ammo starts @ $18.00 just depending on brand.

.223/5.56 Ammo is running around 45¢ a round here for Brass case stuff.

I do not understand the run on .22 ammo. This entire run is based on the fear that the feds are going to ban certain types of guns/ammo. They are not going to go after ALL guns right away, and .22 will be the last to be taken away. Yet you can darn near get .38 .223 9mm etc for the same per round price as .22. IMHO buying .22 now is crazy. It has got to come down someday.

I checked the date of this thread. Where have you fellows been the last 5 months?

If anything ammo is becoming slightly more available and prices are settling a bit this month. Most 9mm, if you could find it was $30-$50. I still don't see much online. Saw some for $19.99 at the show May 6.

This week finally some 5.56x45 on line.

I am just glad I had a large cache.

Read the first post, we are talking about retail chains, NOT the gun shows you like to attend. I have been very attentive to prices and supply, and so have these other posters.

If I had to guess I would say its low because the ammo companies are producing so many rounds dor the government that the .22lr gets put on the back burner. Couple that with hording and you have - a shortage.

I will say you are lucky if you even find ammo in retail establishments. Never, ever see anything but some spare shotgun ammo at Walmart and the like. Even Big 5, Sports Authority who have prices through the roof are out.

Why do you call gun owners that are hoarding ammo, "Big Sis"?

Everyone loves capitalism until they're on the short end of the stick. Then it's price gouging, and they want the government to step in and do something.........

Nobody wants the gubmint to step in here. We want them to step back. The reason this is occuring is because big gubmint is scaring the bejesus out of us with gun laws and ammo purchases.
