To me this sounds like a waste of a fine bear....http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=YiscmWuRJjI

I see ZERO reason to shoot a bear unless its self defense.

To even things up maybe hunters should go into the woods with just a knife, and the bear has his paws. Each has a chance.

I hear bear is good eats. Meat is really tender and not gamey at all. I know people up in my area that hunt and eat bear and then sell the hide.

It's good they post pictures like this. That way if it was done illegally, Fish & Game has evidence to go after them for poaching. If they have a suspect for poaching they will look all over for pictures.

Nothing like a good bear burger with a pint of beer. Num, num, num...

I suppose you go to the stockyard with just a knife and kill your beef?

I've had bear, and it is not gamey at all. In the northern part of our state these black bears are actually quite common. They can seem very tame when they come near humans, but can be quite dangerous to people and pets. I don't have a problem with hunting them at all.

I have seen this done on Youtube. The only way the man wins is to outsmart them...even then it could go either way at the point of interaction...and just watching it makes your heart pound out of your chest as it is very primal form of hunting.

Unless there is overpopulation I agree, bears keep the other populations they feed on in check.

I'm not a hunter....but I'm not opposed to legal hunting. I do however find that the older I get, the more compassion I have for the animal to live a life without being hunted. I grasp that in some cases, hunting is needed to keep populations in check. I also understand that many hunters feel a duty to be respectful of the prey they pursue and follow all laws regarding the taking of said game. No problem....I just don't enjoy it myself. I do DESPISE poachers and scum-bags that disobey the law and kill animals for just the sake of killing. When I took up hunting (very briefly when I was much younger)....I used to be able to spot these clowns a mile away. Especially the road hunting, lazy turds that would drive around all day in a huge 4x4 looking for game. I've always found that to be disgusting and without integrity.
Just my opinion.

I do not eat red meat.

I had a bear walk up to within 10 yards of me last Monday, I was armed with a center fire rifle and had no desire to shoot it.
I was never in any danger or felt threatened in any way.

We have a lot of black bear in my area and they have occasionally become aggressive. A few years ago a black bear killed and gutted a neighbor's horse. While I'm not a hunter I have no problem with those who hunt by the rules.

+1 ^^^

A hunter with a permit and a bear tag is not a monster. That is why we regulate hunting, to keep things in check. Nothing wrong with it when playing by the rules.

Yup.

And as others have said Bear meat is very good as long as it is prepared during butchering properly. The fat is what can ruin it.

So what do you eat? Are you 100% a veg-head and eat/use nothing that came from another living creature? Unless you are you have no case.

Why shoot a Bear for reasons other than SD? How about because it is a very good eating animal.

BTW - I am curious if anyone noticed that link about harvesting that bear was from the WEATHER CHANNEL. I don't know what is going on with them lately but I have noticed a lot of anti hunting/PETA type stuff on their website( the video in the link wasn't but I have seen a lot there ). The WEATHER CHANNEL should stick to WEATHER!

I know one who did that (wasn't hunting at the time, was berry picking). The sow bear protecting her cubs didn't survive, he did.

I have seen black bears of this size in the wild, and one was caught and taken to the Santa Ana Zoo. They named him Samson.

I cannot eat bear meat for religious reasons, as it is a carnivorous mammal.

But for those who can do so, that is OK with me.
