Shocks for Dodge Ram 1500

I noticed that the OEM shocks on my Ram got a little soft and bouncy.
And there's very pronounced feathering on the outside treads of the both front tires that might be caused by poor suspension system.
So, I've been searching for new shocks, reading some guides: https://4wdlife.com/shocks-for-dodge-ram-1500
But I don't think I can make the right choice based solely on a guide. I want to hear your opinions, guys. What shocks can you recommend?

I can tell you on the ram forums, the bilstein 5100 hundreds are very popular. Can't recall any negative posts on this.

After research in the past, Bilstein has been the best choice for every truck I've owned...Dodge, Ford and now Toyota.

Don't be afraid to contact manufacturers directly to have them explain the difference between one line of dampers and another. I replaced the front shocks on my Burb, decided on Monroe, and then contacted them to explain the difference between the 4 or 5 models that fit. I ended up going with OESpectrum, which is an OEM direct replacement. Any company worth buying from will take the time to help you choose the right product for your application.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle, why not go with Bilstein shocks and lifetime warranty. You cannot get better shocks than Bilstein. And lifetime warranty is good to have.

Yep Bilstein again. Have installed 3 sets and my employee has one waiting to go in once we slow down a bit. Build quality is much much better than OE.

Bilsteins 5100 on my 1500 series chevrolet. Before that I tried low grade monroes. Night and day difference.. however the Billies will be much firmer and stiffer than what you are used to.

IF i ever do it again i think im going with the Gabriel Ultras.. they are super cheap and just too many good reports on them. I would consider these in the middle between Monroes soft and Billies firm. But thats just from reading no real world experience.

As a second, in addition to the bilstein 5100/4600 (same valving), I've used Monroe Reflex. I was very pleased with them and installed them in 2 vehicles. The reflexes allowed the suspension to work more (more movement) but were still well controlled. They were spot on for my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and gave a nice ride in a gen 4 town and country minivan.

Bilsteins were actually softer than the oem bilsteins on our gen 1 tundra TRD (TRD is pretty stiffly sprung from the factory).

As for monroe, I've also had some duds, years ago. But I did like the Reflex.

Hmm. I've just looked at Monroe's website. They seem to have removed several product lines. It makes me wonder if the Reflex is the same thing I had or not. They went from like 4 lines to 2. I hope they haven't dumbed down that model, but how would you know?

I got 5100s on the jeep, light years better than what was on it before

Cant go wrong and they are cheap.

Bilstein 4600 if it is stock height, 5100 for lifted.

Good to know, I will be putting 4600's on front of my Ram in the near future.

Gabriel Ultras here, I have one set that is 5 years old on a 3500 Savana, also on Silverados, too. These Savana's weigh 9200 pounds as equipped. Never had any shocks compare for value, and they also have a lifetime warranty.


They will go on every truck I own until someone makes a better one.
