Looking for a softer ride for a '97 C2500 Suburban. I'm not expecting a Cadillac ride, but something that's smooth and comfortable. Any recommendations on shocks? How are the KYB GR-2/Excel-G's or Gabriel Ultras?

We run Ultras here on our fleet. Excellent on Silverados and 3500 Savanas loaded to the limit.

KYB is not a fav after two failures with no warranty coverage.

Ultra is the best for the dough out there IMO.

I strongly recommend Bilstein in all applications like this. Their "Comfort" shocks provide a smooth ride and they'll outlast the rest of the truck.

The KYB GR-2 is not a good choice if a smooth ride is a high priority--they are intentionally set to be more firm than stock

Gabriel is a good choice, as would Bilstein Comfort, if you can afford them.

Monroe Reflex would also work.

On the value end you have Monroe Sensa tracs with a lifetime warranty. They will usually last 50k miles or so then get a new set under warranty.
